Contents12 sections

Transparent Labs is a US sports nutrition brand built on one idea: show customers exactly what is in every scoop. Its formulas are fully disclosed, with no proprietary blends, and the company publishes lab test results for its products.

The range covers pre-workouts, protein, creatine, amino acids, fat-loss products and general health supplements. In this Transparent Labs review, we look at how the company works, what its testing does and doesn’t prove, and whether it is worth placing an order.

We also bought some of their products to try them ourselves. Formulas and prices change, so treat the doses below as what we found on the labels we bought, and check the current label before you order.

This article is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Dietary supplements are not approved by the FDA before they are sold, and high-stimulant pre-workouts are not suitable for everyone. Check with a qualified healthcare professional before starting any supplement, especially if you are sensitive to caffeine, take medication, or have a heart or blood pressure condition. Key Takeaways

  • Transparent Labs lists every ingredient with its exact dose. There are no proprietary blends, so you can see what you are paying for.
  • The company publishes certificates of analysis (lab test results) for its products, which is still uncommon in sports nutrition.
  • The Bulk Black pre-workout we tested used citrulline malate and beta-alanine at doses in the range used in research, plus close to 300mg of caffeine. Start with half a scoop.
  • Transparent Labs is not “FDA approved”, because the FDA does not approve any dietary supplement. GMP-compliant manufacturing is a legal requirement, not an approval.
  • Prices sit at the premium end of the market. Enhanced Labs and Bulk Supplements are worth comparing, depending on whether you want basics, ready-made formulas or single ingredients.

Who Are Transparent Labs?

Transparent Labs is a US sports nutrition company that set out to stand apart in a crowded market. It is smaller than the biggest supplement brands, but it has built a large following among lifters and on social media.

Transparent Labs Review
Transparent Labs focuses on sports nutrition and workout supplements

Its main selling point is in the name. Many sports supplements hide their doses inside a “proprietary blend”, which lists the ingredients but not how much of each you get. Transparent Labs lists every ingredient with its exact dose and publishes certificates of analysis for its products. We rarely see that level of documentation in sports supplements.

The same approach runs across the range, from the standard pre-workout and protein to more niche products like nootropics.

How Does Transparent Labs Work?

Like any other online supplement brand: you order from their website, either as a one-off purchase or on a subscription, and the products ship to you. What sets it apart is how the products are built and documented.

The formulas use well-studied ingredients at meaningful doses. The Bulk Black pre-workout we tested, for example, listed 8,000mg of citrulline malate and 4,000mg of beta-alanine, plus boron. Boron has limited human data suggesting it may modestly raise free testosterone [1], but it is a minor extra here, not a reason to buy a pre-workout.

The brand has also published free guides on its website covering nutrition, body recomposition, meal plans and training. It is a sign that Transparent Labs wants to educate customers, not just sell to them.

Testing, GMP and the FDA

A certificate of analysis (COA) is a lab report showing what a batch actually contains. Because Transparent Labs publishes these, you can check that the label matches what is in the tub. Like most supplement COAs, these are tests the brand orders from an outside lab. They are useful, but they are not the same as an independent certification program such as NSF Certified for Sport or Informed Sport, which tested athletes often need.

The company also says its products are made in facilities that follow the FDA’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. That is a good sign, but it is not FDA approval. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they go on sale. Manufacturers are responsible for the safety and labeling of their own products, and GMP compliance is a legal requirement for every supplement maker in the US, not a special badge.

Best Transparent Labs Products

Transparent Labs has a wide range, so we focus on the products we bought and tried ourselves, and on the ingredients in them that have research behind them.

Bulk Black Pre-Workout

The Bulk Black is the stronger version of the brand’s original Bulk pre-workout. On the label we tested, a full scoop delivered 8,000mg of citrulline malate, 4,000mg of beta-alanine, Alpha-GPC (as AlphaSize) and close to 300mg of caffeine, among other ingredients.

The Bulk Black Pre-Workout we tested
IngredientLabel we testedDoses used in researchWhat it does
Citrulline malate8,000mg6,000-8,000mg before trainingMay improve high-rep performance and reduce soreness; results are mixed
Beta-alanine4,000mg3,200-6,400mg per day, taken daily for several weeksRaises muscle carnosine, which buffers acid during hard 1-4 minute efforts
CaffeineClose to 300mg3-6mg per kg of body weightImproves strength, power and endurance in many studies

These doses are in the range used in research, which is what you want from a premium pre-workout. Our guide to citrulline malate covers that ingredient in more detail.

Two things to know. Beta-alanine works by building up in muscle over weeks of daily use, so the harmless tingling you feel after a scoop is not a sign that it is “working”. And close to 300mg of caffeine is a lot in one go. If you are new to stimulants or sensitive to caffeine, start with half a scoop and avoid it late in the day. The FDA cites 400mg a day as an amount not generally linked to dangerous effects in healthy adults, and that total includes your coffee.

Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate

Protein has the clearest case of any supplement for muscle growth, although what matters is your total daily intake, not the powder itself. A large 2018 meta-analysis found that the benefit of extra protein for muscle gain leveled off at around 1.6g per kilogram of body weight per day.

The 100% Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate we bought delivered 28g of protein and 1g of carbs per serving, with no artificial sweeteners. That makes it easy to fit into either a bulk or a cut.

Because it is an isolate, it contains less lactose than a standard whey concentrate, which some people with a mildly sensitive stomach tolerate better. Our guide to protein powders for sensitive stomachs covers more options.

Intra-Workout Essential Amino Acids

Their Intra-Workout formula is a low-carb essential amino acid (EAA) drink. EAAs already include the three branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine), which is why an EAA product makes more sense than a BCAA-only one.

Transparent Labs Intra-Workout EAA
Transparent Labs Intra-Workout EAA
The Intra-Workout EAA supplement

Be realistic about what it does. If you already eat enough protein across the day, an intra-workout EAA drink adds little extra muscle growth. It is most useful if you train fasted or many hours after your last meal. Pairing it with a carb such as cyclic dextrin can help fuel long, hard sessions, but the carbs support performance; they do not build muscle on their own.

The Rest of the Range

Beyond these three, Transparent Labs sells a stim-free pre-workout (one of the customer comments below covers it), creatine and general health products. We did not test those for this review, so read each label before you buy.

Pricing, Ordering and Shipping

Transparent Labs sits at the premium end of the market. Prices vary by product, size and flavor, and the brand has offered discounts on subscription orders, so we don’t list prices here. Check the current price on their site before you order.

Shipping costs depend on the method and your location. The brand has used carriers including USPS, FedEx and DHL for international orders, and has offered free shipping on subscriptions. Check the current terms at checkout, since they change.

Customer Reviews

Here are a few comments from customers that we collected when we first reviewed the brand. They are individual experiences, not test results.

Just picked this up 3 days ago. Decided to cycle off Total War and try something new. Worked great for me. Very clean boost that rolls in and sustains throughout ( back day and chest tri day) my workouts. Beta (ants) kicked in rather quickly and I did feel a flush. Nootropics in it did great. Stayed focused and felt great. No crash at all. Although it does have 305 mg of caffeine, its not really for stim junkies as it doesn’t really “HIT” like you would think. Pumps were great as well. It’s definitely a great daily driver. Very smooth workouts thus far. Downside…..doesn’t mix that great, bigger (21.2 gm) scoop. If taste is important to you its a 3/5. Black cherry was the only flavor available. Hope this helps.

Science_Realistic on the Bulk Black Pre-Workout

The Stim-Free is the closest thing to Nitric that I can get in Canada without paying an arm and a leg for shipping.

I really like it. It gives a very nice pump, and the l-tyrosine in it gives me a pretty strong mental focus and overall energy (I heard not everyone responds this way to l-tyrosine though).

A customer on the Stim-Free Pre-Workout

A few weeks ago i was looking for a preworkout after my Jym preworkout ran out.

I bought there Bulk-Preworkout after looking at the ingredients side by side of Jym’s preworkout and saw it had more of the ingredients that mattered. One thing to note though is it has less caffeine then most preworkouts and you might want to buy caffeine pills on the side if you like around 300mg of caffeine.

How was it, well the first couple of workouts i had the sickest pump i had gotten in a long time and definately felt the effects. So all in all i would say they are legit and i would give them a try if you like what you saw in one of there products.

Only downside is it is pretty pricey

Alternatives to Transparent Labs

Transparent Labs vs Enhanced Labs

Enhanced Labs, a Muscle & Brawn partner, makes training supplements including creatine monohydrate and magnesium. If your stack is built around basics like these, it is worth comparing before you buy. Our Enhanced Labs review covers which of its products are worth buying.

Enhanced Labs
Enhanced Labs At Enhanced Labs, we do not cut corners. Every ingredient is chosen with purpose. Every formula is researched, tested, and refined before it ever reaches your hands. If…

Pros
  • Catalog is specifically organized around muscle building, fat loss, testosterone support, and workout performance.
  • Range includes creatine, protein, EAAs, beta-alanine, and L-citrulline alongside more specialized formulas.
  • Orders of $99+ qualify for free US shipping.
Cons
  • Features several strong claims around muscle growth, testosterone, fat loss, and metabolic effects that should be distinguished from independently demonstrated clinical outcomes
  • Heavily oriented toward bodybuilding and performance rather than broader nutritional supplementation.

Transparent Labs vs Double Wood Supplements

Double Wood Supplements is more of a niche brand. Transparent Labs is built around training, muscle growth and fat loss, while Double Wood focuses more on general health and nootropic-style products. Pick the one that matches your goal.

Transparent Labs vs Bulk Supplements

Both are solid brands, but they suit different buyers. Bulk Supplements is known for single-ingredient powders, so it has the edge if you want to build your own stack, for example with a stand-alone boron supplement. Transparent Labs is the better pick if you want ready-made formulas with every dose already worked out.

The Bottom Line

Transparent Labs is a legitimate, well-made supplement brand whose biggest strength is honesty on the label, but you pay a premium for it.

  • Fully disclosed formulas and published lab results make it easy to check what you are getting.
  • The products we tested used doses in the range used in research. Bulk Black’s caffeine dose calls for caution, so start with half a scoop.
  • It is not FDA approved, because no supplement is. GMP compliance is a legal minimum, not an approval.
  • Compare current prices with alternatives such as Enhanced Labs or Bulk Supplements before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Transparent Labs publishes certificates of analysis from outside labs for its products, which is still uncommon among sports supplement brands. These are tests the brand orders itself, so if you compete in a tested sport, look for a product that also carries a certification such as NSF Certified for Sport or Informed Sport.
For most lifters, yes. The stronger formulas, like Bulk Black, use citrulline malate, beta-alanine and caffeine at doses in the range used in research, which can help you fight fatigue and get more out of a hard session. The high caffeine dose is not for everyone, so start with half a scoop.
No, and no dietary supplement is. The FDA does not approve supplements before they are sold. Transparent Labs says its products are made in facilities that follow the FDA’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. That is a legal requirement for supplement makers, not an FDA approval.
No. Weight gain comes from eating more calories than you burn, and a pre-workout has very few. The “Bulk” name refers to the fully dosed formula, not to weight gain. Caffeine slightly raises the calories you burn, but the effect is too small to matter much on its own.
Yes. It is an established US supplement brand with fully disclosed labels and published lab results, and the products we bought and tried worked as described. As with any brand, buy from the official site or an authorized seller to avoid counterfeits.
That is the beta-alanine. The tingling, called paresthesia, is harmless and usually fades within about an hour. It tends to be stronger with larger single doses, so taking a half scoop reduces it.
