Default Training and Overweight Clients

Just a random thought. I see a lot of fitness and weight makeover shows that involve extremely heavy clients. the trainers often make them do a lot of explosive work, as well as a lot of joint intense work right out of the gate.

This makes me wince. Maybe I am an oddball here but I would rather play it safe and build some conditioning while working on better eating habits.

I don't know my body could take the beating some of these trainers put clients through.

What do you think. Am I a wuss?

I agree. I cringe when I see them jogging, even for some lighter people, such as myself, jogging is a strict no-no due to an unstable knee...the bigger a person is, the more pressure, impact, the joint gets...the faster a person moves, the more the impact again; it's not good.

I remember seeing one person dislocate his shoulder through doing push-ups at a really heavy bodyweight. They check out their hearts and blood pressure but they don't seem to take weight and joints and the stability of tendons and such in to account when devising a routine for the newcomer to exercise. That may just be related to TV style, quick loss situations, but even so, what does it say about the trainers?

That's the question for me.

I turned on a documentary last night and there was a 623 pound man being forced to do crazy things by a trainer that was on serious steroids. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion.

On a lot of those shows, the overweight contestant is closely monitored by doctors and medics during the entire time. It is extreme and I think it serves twp purposes:

1. It pushes them past where they never thought they could go to show them how tough they are and how much tougher they will need to be.

2. It gets a quick scale reduction result, which is likely to reinforce motivation.

I agree that it look INSANE.

I think one of the first rules of these TV shows is sort of a Nazi type approach to how they portray the individuals.

Your FAT and you must be made to suffer for this!

This would not hurt so bad if you were not FAT!

the end of the season it's, now don't you feel better not being FAT!

America is FAT! At least thats what the propaganda machine wants the masses to believe. Have you checked you BMI lately?

Your fat!

The documentary I watched last night lead in with the following quote (paraphrased):

100 million Americans are dangerously obese!

And then they proceeded to show 60 seconds of clips involving 400-700 pound people.

For balance watch the documentary Fat Head. He searches for all these incredibly fat people and has a hard time finding them. They are certainly not one out of every 2 adults as the propaganda machine tells us.

Today at the doctor the nurse didn't believe I was 43 and not taking medications. She asked me three times.

No the trainers are either ignorant or they've sold their souls to the god$$$$$$ of explotation tv

America is fat! I live in a bubble of extreme fitness. Every summer when the tourists arrive I realize exactly how high the general level of bodyfat is in our country.
In the last 2 summers I've noticed that European children are closing in on American children also.

Fat Head is a good show.

I get the same crazy look from nurses when I go to the Dr.

1. they don't believe that I'm 49.

2. they don't believe me when I answer that I'm not taking any medications.

3. They then tell me that they need to know what medications I'm taking for any drug interaction issues.

4. I'm not taking any meds. I'm a healthy person!

5. We'll find you something you need. It's our job!

And another thing!

Since when did drinking coffee become a frigging crime?

At the Dentist.

Do you smoke?

Seriously? Do my teeth and breath give you the indication that I smoke?

No.

Then why did you ask?

Do you drink coffee?

yes, it's not a crime, and I like it.

You should stop drinking coffee. It's giving you some staining.

Clean my teeth and shut the hell up. thats what I'm paying you for.

Last time I went to the dentist he fixed something that wasn't broken so some random hidden tooth would "look" better. This adjustment has since given me 3 years of recurring sinus irritation and tooth aches in that specific area.

I'll be back next when they all fall out.
