Semaglutide for Bodybuilding

Semaglutide is a new Peptide that can be used to help you lose weight and slow gastric emptying. Let's look at its application in bodybuilding.

Compound Summary

Class of Compound

Mechanism of Action

Semaglutide is a potent agonist of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptors. It also upregulates the insulin levels in the plasma and downregulates the level of glucagon. All of this ensures adequate blood sugar levels.

Chemical Structure

Losing weight might be the goal of most of the human population, but for those of us that chase mass above all else, it probably isn’t.

That said, looking at how much weight loss is needed to step on stage, it is not uncommon for bodybuilders to use various compounds to lose a bit of extra body weight.

Semaglutide is one of those “new” compounds that you may or may not have heard of. It has the makings of something quite good, however, more investigation is needed.

Without further ado, let us dive in and see if this new peptide is worth your hard-earned money.

Key Takeaways

  • Semaglutide is known as a GLP-1 receptor agonist
  • Semaglutide can help the pancreas produce the right amount of insulin
  • Semaglutide has also been shown to slow gastric emptying, helping with weight loss
  • Semaglutide is an approved FDA drug for obesity, available online but you technically need a prescription

What is Semaglutide?

As mentioned, Semaglutide gets grouped with other Peptides but is more commonly known as a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics the action of human incretin glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) [1].

This is something that you would want when trying to lose weight, and this is why Semaglutide is being used as an anti-obesity medication (combined with a good diet and training plan). It is simply a method of glycemic control.

When trying to lose weight or even trying to increase weight dramatically (bulking), glycemic control could help a tremendous amount.

How does Semaglutide work?

Without making things seem a lot more complicated than they are, Semaglutide will help your pancreas release the right amount of insulin when your blood sugar is high. So, it helps your body produce the correct amount of insulin needed.

This can help you avoid chronically high levels of blood sugar, which can have some severe impacts on your health. Fitness fanatics will also know that elevated blood sugar levels are one of the major causes of inflammation, fat gain, and heart disease.

Another great benefit of Semaglutide is the fact that not only will it reduce your risk of diabetes, but it will also slow gastric emptying [2].

What this means is that it will simply “keep the food in you for longer”, helping you remain fuller for longer. This can be very beneficial for someone in a calorie deficit and looking at those who have used it, patients experienced improvements in hunger and weight loss.

Findings suggest that since it has been approved by the FDA, several hundreds of people, especially those that are pre-diabetic saw the most improvement.

How to use Semaglutide for Bodybuilding?

Now that we know the basics of how the endocrine society would describe this new drug, let’s look at how you could use this treatment to improve the quality of your bodybuilding.

We know that Semaglutide could help you remain fuller for longer, so, it will definitely help you eat less while trying to lose weight – specifically. Trying to use it as a GDA when packing on pounds in a bulk is a bit trickier. Sure, it might help your pancreas produce more insulin when needed, but this creates a problem.

The beta cells in the pancreas that do produce insulin will become really tired and burned out quite quickly – this is exactly why bodybuilders use insulin! Semaglutide does not really take the load off from the pancreas it just makes sure the pancreas produces enough.

Therefore, there is no real reason why to use Semaglutide in a bulk. This medicine was never created for someone eating thousands upon thousands of calories. If you are looking for the “ultimate” GDA, you might want to consider Metformin.

Semaglutide Dose – Bodybuilding

As a bodybuilder, you are probably heavier and more active (with more muscle tissue) than the average human being. Thus, with most drugs, you need a bit more. That said, you still need to be careful with subcutaneous Semaglutide seeing as it can lower blood sugar levels which can lead to hypoglycemia.

The starting dose is 0.25mg per week and can be adjusted from there. Many patients need more, while other obese individuals need slightly less. Get a blood glucose monitor and make informed decisions yourself.

Semaglutide Cycle – Bodybuilding

A cycle that has Semaglutide within it is usually set up to help with losing a few pounds. It can also be used in a body composition model, or just for those looking to avoid muscle loss.

Semaglutide can be stacked with other Peptides, SARMs, Anabolics, Supplements, or natural remedies. As always, use caution when using subcutaneous Semaglutide with anything else – especially things that will lower your blood sugar levels even further.

Semaglutide for Weight Loss?

Semgalutide is a valuable tool to be used for fat loss. Semaglutide has been tested readily and most participants had amazing reactions compared to the placebo:

  • A two-year-long study found “change in body weight from baseline to week 104 was –15.2% (0.9) with Semaglutide and –2.6% (1.1) with placebo” [3]
  • Another 40-week-long study found similar results, that the group using Semaglutide had lost weight while the placebo group ended up gaining weight [4]

It is safe to say that Semaglutide works really well for fat loss and weight loss. Plus, you reduce the risk of Diabetes! Another great option to use with Semaglutide is going to be Metformin, a drug that allows you to be way more insulin sensitive – potentially lowering your need for Semaglutide.

Where to buy Semaglutide

Semaglutide is not the easiest thing to find online, and even though there are significant weight loss benefits, many reputable sources just do not stock it. Unless you get a prescription for it, you can go to a trusted vendor Biotech Peptides for fully COA tested product, or Amino Asylum for cheaper but of more questionable quality (under Biotech Peptides).

As mentioned, this seems to be the best one we could find. Having used some of their Peptides before, I can attest that they have amazing quality and do COA testing.

As far as the medication in question goes, they have testing data on their site to show the quality (of all their products).

Semaglutide was originally developed to treat diabetes but can be used for weight management, weight loss, and even just part of a healthy diet.

For the best results possible, dietary and lifestyle changes should coincide with using such a Peptide.

Amino Asylum is another giant in the world of research chemicals and Peptides. It has to be said that they probably have a wider range of products compared to Biotech.

Regardless, their Semaglutide injections are dosed at 5mg per vial, going for around $124.99 before discounts.

As a means to manage low blood sugar levels, this compound can help you lose fat, granted your diet and training is on point as well.

Clinical trials have found that this prescription medication can be used as an effective weight loss medication [1].

Conclusion: Semaglutide for Bodybuilding

Semaglutide is one of those drugs that really only a few will even end up using. You’re typically looking at the huskier guy or gal that always struggles to remain lean or has trouble in a cut.

On prep, we have a tendency to use a kitchen sink approach and use just about anything we can get our hands on. Semaglutide is luckily a safer option than most, seeing as most of the participants in the studies did not really report any significant side effects.

That said, caution is still advised – especially for those who are using more than one “treatment” or something else that also lowers blood sugar levels. Going hypo could put your life at risk.

Other than that one caveat, it’s a solid addition to anyone who struggles to lose weight! Personally, hunger is always a bitch on prep, and I recently used Sibutramine which also curbs appetite and it really helped.

Is Semaglutide worth it for weight loss?

Granted you are actually going to make a lifestyle intervention, absolutely. There are various studies showing how effective it is. It probably is not the holy grail of fat loss, however, for good enough fat loss it certainly is a drug to consider.

Who should not take Semaglutide?

Those suffering from Type 1 Diabetes or those who are already taking something that lowers blood glucose levels.

What happens after you stop Semaglutide?

Not much, to be honest. The therapy does not suppress any natural hormones, and while findings do not really follow up with patients after the studies are completed, we can assume that if they keep dieting and training, they had sufficient results.

What diet is best with Semaglutide?

A diet that is sustainable. We can give you the perfect diet but if you are not even sticking to the damn diet what use is it? That said, eating fewer carbs could help, but that remains to be seen from personal use.
