PRL-8-53 Review: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects

While all of us wish to have a solid memory, it may not just be possible with practice only. The use of nootropics has increased considerably, and one such nootropic that is known as a memory enhancer is PRL-8-53. It improves recall and retaining power in individuals and is known to be a game changer. Read through the end to find out more about it!

With the current dynamics of the world, especially the education system, memory is more tested compared to actual intelligence.

Thus, everyone wants to cram more stuff to either ace their exam or flex infront of their classmates with dozens of facts .

With more people trying to improve their memory and retaining power, researchers have been long trying to develop nootropics that can improve one’s memory and optimize brain health in general.

One such nootropic that is potentially considered a gateway to efficient memory is PRL-8-53. And, this is the topic of our today’s article as well.

We will talk about everything related to this prospective memory-enhancing nootropic and hopefully that will help you decide whether you should start taking PRL-8-53 supplementation.

What is PRL-8-53?

PRL-8-53 is a synthetic research nootropic, first developed by Nikolaus R. Hansl at Creighton University in 1972.

While its regular name may sound a bit intricate, its chemical name is rather more complex.

Its chemical structure constitutes benzoic acid and phenylmethylamine, thus named as methyl 3-(2-(benzyl(methyl)amino)ethyl)benzoate. The chemical formula of the compound is C18H21NO2 (1).

While it was patented in 1974, it is important to know that there is extremely limited clinical research conducted involving this proclaimed memory-booster nootropic.

How Does PRL-8-53 Work?

Because of the limited studies involving PRL-8-53, the exact mechanism of action followed by this powerful nootropic is not really known but researchers hypothesize that it has to do something with the neurotransmitters.

Dr Hansl, the inventor of PRL-8-53, claims that it enhances the activity of Acetylcholine, upregulates the activity of dopamine as well as moderates the serotogonic system, all at one!

Because Acetylcholine is more concerned with memory, learning and cognition, what PRL-8-53 essentially does is interact with cholinergic receptors and enhance the transmission and neuronal connections.

Dopamine, also well known as one of the ‘happy hormones’, is known to be affected by PRL-8-53. PRL-8-53 upregulates the release of dopamine into our body, thus improving memory, concentration, focus, behaviour, and motivation.

Last but not least, most of us know that serotonin is known to cause depression, anxiety and insominia-related symptoms. What PRL-8-53 does is it blocks serotonin production as well. The synergistic upregulation of dopamine and downregulation of serotonin results in enhanced behaviors (2).

Benefits of PRL-8-53

While the most pronounced benefit of PRL-8-53 is on one’s memory, learning and retaining power, there are other minor benefits as well.

Improves Memory and Recall

In one of the clinical trials, PRL-8-53 was administered to subjects prior to the memorization test. The test was designed to assess word recollection abilities of the subjects.

While results were not dramatically promising, evidence exists that taking PRL-8-53 supplementation improved recall, memory and retaining power of ther subjects who were a part of the test (3).

While more research is needed, it can be claimed that PRL-8-53 may potentially improve short-term and long-term memory.

Induces Logical Thinking

Perhaps Dr Hansl also claimed that using PRL-8-53 may also improve verbal efficiency and analytic behaviors. This also means that PRL-8-53 supplementation may optimize learning and logical thinking.

Because it may improve the analytic behavior, you might be able to understand the abstract concepts well enough post PRL-8-53 supplementation.

Slows down age-related cognitive decline

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter largely responsible for the positive feelings of reward and pleasure. It is believed that PRL-8-53 is a dopamine agonist, a compound that activates dopamine receptors.

Because dopamine levels decline with age, taking PRL-8-53 supplementation would upregulate the release of dopamine and delay the onset of age-related cognitive disorders, such as Parkinsons disease and ADHD.

Is PRL-8-53 Legal?

This substance is not approved by the FDA as a nutritional supplement, but instead is an unscheduled drug.

Despite not being approved by the FDA, it is legal to buy and use PRL-8-53 in the US.

Not only this, despite extremely limited clinical research, most people use PRL-8-53 supplementation because of the potencity and anecdotal evidence.

PRL-8-53 Dosage

Because of the limited clinical studies involving PRL-8-53, there are no proper dosage guidelines available. However, most users feel 5mg/day is optimal.

With that being said, you can actually start with 5mg/day and then increase your dosage to 10mg/day to as high as 20mg/day gradually whenever you feel comfortable.

Side Effects

While the limited research trial didnt show any adverse effects, it is important to know about people’s experience with the nootropic.

One of the users reported that it increased obsessive behavior in someone already diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD.

It also made the subjects feel fever without an actual increase in temperature, thus resulting in hyperthermia.

It is also known to cause hypotension in someone with already low blood pressure.

At high doses, headache, insomnia, and fatigue were also experienced by the users.

While all of these are anecdotal-based side effects, more research trials are needed to confirm long-term safety profile of the nootropic.

PRL-8-53 User Reviews

Let’s read some of the reviews to know more about this potential nootropic and decide whether the anecdotal evidence is strong enough to support the effects of PRL-8-53.

An anonymous user said,

“Your milage may vary, but PRL-8-53 has been the closest thing to a life-changing substance for me. For those similar to me (fast processing speed, average working memory and poor immediate recall), it might be worth a try.”

Another user said,

“I think PRL-8-53 Is absurdly under-rated and I think it stems from its improper use. For me it’s BY FAR the most potent raw memory creator and retriver.”

Jbh222 left a comment saying,

“Taking it sublingual a number of years ago had a noticeable effect for me. To the point where people at work were commenting on my recall. Neat experience. Still have 2 grams of the stuff laying around, lol!”

One of the users had a mixed opinion as he said,

“Did nothing for me. I mean, it did something to my memory in a way that is very hard to test for and actually notice, but I had to stop because it was giving me migraines.”

PRL-8-53 Stacks

Nootropics work extremely well when they are used syergistically with other nootropics. Using PRL-8-53 with other potential nootropics may not only enhance your memory and recall to a greater extent but also your overall mood, behavior, concentration, and cognitive capabilities.

Some of the most effective stacks are as follows:

PRL-8-53 and Phenylpiracetam

If you stay up-to-date with nootropics, I am sure that you must have heard about Piracetam. Adding a phenyl group to Piracetam results in the development of phenylpiracetam

Just like PRL-8-53, Phenylpiracetam also regulates the activity of neurotransmitters by either increasing the receptors or upregulating the synthesis.

Research suggests that Phenylpiracetam may improve memory, recall and cognition power in individuals.

Clinical trials involving Phenylpiracetam also show that PRL-8-53 may prove effective in managing anxiety and depression.

Stacking Phenylpiracetam with PRL-8-53 means you will be able to experience massive improvement in memory, cognition, recall and retaining power as well as reduced risk of developing any neurological disorders.

PRL-8-53 and Alpha GPC

Alpha-glycerophosphocholine is one of the highly used choline containing compounds. Because it can cross the blood-brain barrier, it can be a good source of choline.

Subsequently, Alpha GPC may increase the levels of Acetylcholine into our body, and act as a potential nootropic.

As Acetylcholine is one of the essential neurotransmitters for improving memory, cognition, learning, thinking and recall skills, using Alpha GPC may offer you a lot.

Stacking PRL-8-53 and Alpha GPC means you are going to see double or three-fold effects in your memory and cognitive capacities.

Alpha GPC is also hypothesized to increase blood flow to the brain, thus improving microcirculation.

Where to buy PRL-8-53?

Because of the limited research on this nootropic, you wouldn’t really find a long list of vendors selling PRL-8-53.

Amidst that, it is important to find out the right vendor for your memory-booster nootropic as it can be a deal breaker.

I would personally recommend you to buy from Nootropics depot because of the authenticity of their product as well as extremely positive customer reviews.
