Powerlifting Events

Powerlifting consists of 3 events, the squat, deadlift and bench press. There are also push pull only events, where the squat is absent from competition. Also, strict curling has made an appearance in some federation competitions.

Powerlifting has numerous federations. Some federations are drug tested, and some open. Some powerlifting federations, such as 100% Raw, focus on raw lifting, while others have classes for every possible degree of training gear.

Powerlifting Competitions

In general, each lifter is allowed 3 attempts each at the squat, deadlift and bench press. Competition usually begins with the lightest weight class, and progresses to the heaviest. The best successful lifts from the deadlift, squat and bench press count towards a lifter’s overall total. If there is a tie, the lightest lifter is declared the winner.

Direct competition is against members of the same sex in the same weight and age category.

    • You’ll need to weigh less than 165.7 # Dropping down 6# won’t be hard if you have a 24 hour weigh-in.

At 171, you’ll lift in the 181# class.
