Is this, and the 2 handed variety - also a good pec workout? Or does the floor eliminate the ROM required to recruit the pectorals?

You will get some pec stimulation with any form of heavy pressing. It will pull more of the emphasis on triceps, but your pecs will still feel it.

It's an exercise that doesn't fit into the bodypart paradigm very well. If used on a bodypart split I would personally use it as a tricep exercise - like close grips.

Thanks a lot Steve. I was keen to try it, because I am back to training solo again and the Savickas offers safety.

No problem. It can be tricky to get the dumbbells in place at first, so if you have spinlocks or dumbbells with protruding bars, be careful Don't impale yourself.

I used a bar and my chains for the floor press, actually. Much safer.

I noticed that when I went from the floor press and did a bench press, I lifted more; of course, that may just be that I'm able to and have just never done so before...but it is intriguing, as I'll never really know.

The one arm floor press looks interesting, maybe useful for when the weight is too much to control two at the same time, with safety. Might give that a go, sometime, as I reckon it would have helped today.
