It's where you would do your [squats, deads, presses or bench] as 5/3/1, and then do [squats, deads, presses or bench] again as your accessory lift but use 50% to 60% for 5 sets of 10 reps.

I should add that my transition to powerlifter took a long time. I really had no super-urgent need to take it to the next level. I was satisfied with my muscle and strength.

So I think it's fair to say that this "next realm" isn't a place 99.9 of lifters will ever care about venturing into. It requires one part obsession and one part insanity.

Nothing wrong with being big and strong without feeling the need to go "next level."

i'm going to let my other thread leak in here, but i don't want to take it over:

reading practical programming and understanding the transition from novice > intermediate > advanced and having decided to pursue powerlifting while using madcow's 5x5 to train strength, what is the next logical programming method? according to PP weekly periodization is next, which madcow does, so is the implication that madcow's should last years until the advanced phase? or should I introduce more personalized methods? what training significance would my desire to powerlift impact?

Madcow intermediate will not last years. Madcow advanced could be used after the intermediate. It involves dual factor training which is a step up and more intense.

On intermediate you are adding 2.5% weight each week. It will move you along quite rapidly.

ahhh... no one has ever mentioned madcow advanced to me lol! i'll read on that. would that program be conducive to my desires to powerlift competitively? or will I need to look into something more specific to powerlifting?

It would serve you well, as would Fazc's approach. 531 with some adjustments would help too.
