I tried frequent good mornings a while back as a method of training the squat, but never went heavy enough to have an impact.

I was just wondering if the way you guys train (6 days a week) could work for a powerlifter/strongman. How/could you work with events while also training the power lifts?
I was just wondering because I was thinking about giving it a try in April, but strongman is a must for me. I love log pressing and farmers walk to much to give them up. |

I guess the question I have is this: beyond the squat, bench press and deadlift, which strongman lifts do you practice, and generally how frequently?

Perhaps you can create a template similar to either Fazc or BTB and simply replace one of the main lifts each day with a one of your event lifts. Week 1 heavy singles, doubles, or triples, and week 2 go for some higher reps with a slightly lower weight. Replace pulls with the stone, presses with the log/axel.
That or possibly just work the conventional strength lifts 3-5 days a week and have 1-2 event days. Like Steve said, with their training its a couple weeks of overreaching followed by a deload. There is a lot that can work with that type of setup... Throw something you think makes sense into a template and just make adjustments, add/remove/move around lifts if something is creating to much or to little stress. It will take some trial and error on your part, as it has with all of us... |

Day 1: Axle C&P Day 2: CGBP Day 3: Log Press Day 2: Squat, Stones Day 4: Front Squat, Partial Deadlifts Day 6: Bent Row, Squats Initially something like that would probably work fine. That's a loose template, you could well switch exercises in and out as you see fit. Traditionally most SM that I know train events on the weekend and do some combination of full body work during the week, such as this: Day 1: Axle C&P, Squats, Bent Rows Day 3: CGBP, Front Squats, Partial Deadlifts, Farmers Walk Day 5: Strict Press/Push Press/Jerk Day 6: Events - Log, Stones, Walk etc I'm not much on SM programming but either approach should work, just be sure to do what you can across two weeks to the point where you are fatigued then take a light week. You should come back stronger if you loaded enough. Last edited by Fazc; 02-02-2012 at 10:51 AM. |

Interesting template Fazc, only things I don't really care for is only doing partial deadlifts and not benching every week.
I was thinking something like this, but I really have no idea how something like this would work and would be open to all comments/criticism. Day 1. Deadlifts, Anderson Squats Day 2. Bench Press, Rows Day 3. Front Squats, Partial Deadlifts Day 4. Log C&P, chins?, CGBP Day 5. Squats, Farmers Walk Day 6. Axle C&P, Stones, Curl Thats just an idea I have been throwing around in my head, and thanks to both Pull and Fazc for the help! Not 100% commited to idea, but would really like to try it. Also one more question what are your thoughts on working up to a heavy 3-5 then a back off set of 10 with just deadlifts. After looking through my journal my best deadlift gains came from high reps. |
