--pg 191, Brawn, 3rd Edition "Don't spend inordinate amounts of time studying the maybes of training while neglecting to put in real effort in the gym. Some bodybuilders are walking encyclopedias of information, but never drive themselves hard in the gym. Better that you're ignorant of all the maybes of training, but focus on delivering the real goods where they matter -- in the gym. Priorities!" ------------------------------------------------------ This quote pretty much sums up my life and focus on progression. I wasn't a book reader. After all the Weider mags, I started to avoid books. All the bull aside, an intense focus on progression on every set is all that matters. It can overcome more then we give it credit for. All the success I've ever achieved in this sport is summed up in this quote. My success wasn't from dieting, or supplements, or training splits. My success was from the relentless pursuit of progression through hangovers, pain, soreness, lack of motivation, and everything in between.

I've used pretty much the same routine most of my life (until 2007). When you can learn to love the grind, the grind loves you.

very sensible, no matter the sport you get people wanting the end results without wanting to put in the effort : thinking they'll look like like arnie after 2 weeks in the gym; be as good at jiu jitsu as rickson gracie after 6 months etc and they think there is a mysterious secret that can let them achieve this rather than hard work! (and talent too!)

One of the biggest changes for myself in regards to my training as compared to when I was younger.
When I was younger the workouts were something I had to do to get the muscles that I wanted. Today the workouts are the reason I lift. Having the muscles is just a fringe benefit more or less. Don't get me wrong, I want the size, but I don't see the workouts as an obstacle to get through. They are part of the prize as well. Executing the bar movements is as much a joy for me as seeing the results. |
