HeavyLifts is off to a bad start
Default HeavyLifts does Reg Park's 5x5

Well lads, it begins tonight. Going to start Reg Park's beginner 5x5.

Real name is Lee. 28 years young; 155lbs.

Right now, the screen name is a misnomer. Pretty soon, I hope to be able to live up to it!

First workout tonight goes something like this:
Squat - 5x5 (3x5 working sets)
Chins - 5x5
Bench - 5x5 (3x5 working sets)
BB curls - 3x10
Wrist Work - 2x10
Calf work - 2x15-20

Not sure what to do for the "wrist work". Thinking I'll just do static holds with a heavy arse barbell...well, heavy for me.

I'll post later to you all know how I made out. I've spent the last month or so working on the big lifts (bench, deads, squats, milt press) to get my form down.

~ Lee ~

Good luck Lee! Glad you're starting up a log. Thats a good routine you're on, so eat well, rest well, work hard, and you're going to be passing your own expectations soon.

Thanks for the early encourage, fellas!

Just back from the gym and finished eating like a horse.

Squat - (warm-ups: bar x 5, 95 x 5, 115 x 5); working sets were 3x5 @ 135

Chins - 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 (obviously did more than 5 sets, but wanted to get all 15 working reps in). Any advice on these? Am I better off doing negatives?

Bench - (warm-ups: bar x 5, 95 x 5, 115 x 5); working sets were 3x5 @ 135. Sad that my bench & squat are the same...

Barbell curls - 3x10 @ 45lbs (bar)

Static Wrist Holds - 2x20 secs with 135lbs

Donkey Calf Raises - 2x15 @ 95

Never done front squats before, so I'm amped for Friday!

Great start! And don't worry about the bench and squat numbers. Heck, when I started I out benched my squat for a good 5 or 6 months!

How do you do that static hold for your wrists? Forearms on your thighs holding the bar off the front of your knees? Just curious. Another idea for wrists that I really liked was to do wrist rolls with a straight bar (that could spin obviously) attached to a cable. Pull it out a bit to get tension, then twist it backwards for a bit and forwards for a bit. Just a thought.
