Awesome OHP to say the least. Getting comfortable in your new JoshGym?
Jim, you always have some great insight. I usually don't wear my belt for OHP. But I can see how it would be of some benefit. As for the shoes, I always wear my chucks. At this point I wear them when OHP, Squat, Bench, Deadlift, Curl, do tricep kick backs, etc... You get the point.
How do you like the Squat Shoes? What kind of difference has it made for you? I haven't made the investment at this point in time, and purchased some good squat shoes.
And, I have had issues with feeling like I am going to fall back when OHPing heavy. To combat that I have found a staggered stance works well, for myself.
Thanks again Jim. The JoshGym is awesome!!! Don't know how I did without. It will be a long while before I step foot into a commerical gym again.

Default 12/27/12 Cycle 8 Week 2 Power Clean and Squat

PC
105x3
120x3
135x3

Squat
240x3
275x3
310x3

20 minutes on the spin bike.

Overall Workout Grade: A

Notes:
Everything went well today.
The powercleans felt fluid and explosive with a very purposeful rack at the top.
Squats went great. The lower back was a bit tender from tweeking it last week, but not any big deal. I really focused on push my legs outward on the decent and tightening the shit out of my abs. It seemed to work well for me. The weight fell with ease. It's about damn time I get this reset rolling forward.

A few things I learned from this session:
1.) Power cleans are a great warm up for the Squat.
2.) I recently re read the chapters in Starting Strength about the Squat, power clean. Re reading it has been extremely benifical. If you haven't read it in a while, set aside some time to reread a chapter about a lift you are currently struggling with, it may remind you something that could improve the lift.
3.) I will be ok if I drop Good mornings from the program.

The first time I ever wore the Nike Romaleos on OHP I noticed the difference immediately. My form and resistance load progressed on the spot.

I wear the shoes on every lift except Deads. I use my Chucks for deads still. Even on bench, I notice I am able to get a bit better leg/heel drive, and they keep my feet more stable and in position while I create my arch and while I bench. The shoes help all aspects of the squat, especially sitting back and of course the stability.

I think the Nike Romaleos are the best ones out there. They are not cheap of course, but worth every penny. Even when I took that Oly lifting course last year, all the lifters and the coaches agreed they are the best.

If they don't help your squat out I'll be a monkeys uncle.

As much as I love PC's, I like full cleans or squat cleans better. I found that as the weight went up, I naturally started doing full cleans. It's amazing how much heavier a 185 squat feels after cleaning it.

Damn. Something else to add to the wish list. I think you sold me on the idea. I am going to check them out. Anything to help my squat.

I own the 2nd edition on dead tree and recently purchased the 3rd edition on kindle. I think it's worth a read even for someone with your experience. I know you have achieved some big lifts and have developed your way of doing things, but I don't think reading SS would hurt. At best you relearn or are reminded of something you've lost, at worst it gets you thinking about why you do things the way you do.

Great work Josh! Glad the back is getting better!

Not that my opinion carries much weight, but totally agree with PC's being a great warmup for squats, AND also agree with Jim, squatting shoes will make an immediate improvement on your squat. Well worth the money

I do a lot of reading from his forum. There are some epic throwdowns on that bugger.

Going to check out the Kindle price for the latest edition.

Thanks buddy! Your opinion does carry weight with me. So don't hold back.
I think Wendler mentions something about PCs basically priming the CNS to be explosive which carries over to benefit the squat. At least that's how I understood it.
Between you and Jim I am sold on the squat shoe idea. They are pricey though...

HaHa. Those guys over there are funny. They take the rippetoe mantra to the extreme. A lot of, I read starting strength once, therefore I know more than you. I don't know about you, but people like that make me appreciate this forum even more!
