Thanks guys & Jen!
Mike - I lived and went to school in Camden, in additional to some more time there with a law enforcement internship. So I do have reasonable expectations (they aren't good lol). That said, the agency I got picked up by allows for transfers after a year but also more appealing to me is a much easier time being picked up by "their" law enforcement branch... as opposed to coming in from the outside. J - As for downsides, I can only speak for doing it frequently. At first its rough both mentally and physically. Joints will probably feel beat up and sometimes it will be difficult to walk back up to the bar. With joint soreness, it usually goes away when you get moving and if it doesn't: knee sleeves, wrap the tendons, etc. But like with anything, after some time you get used to it and the work becomes easier. It does get very boring after a while (where I'm at). More so that other types of training, you really have to be focused when you put the bar in your hand. If you aren't you can really mess up the technique of that attempt and significantly limit how high you can push the max... down sets can also suffer. Edit: Also, many days you'll need to spend more time warming up and dealing with lighter weight before you feel right. This can add a butt load of time onto a training session. All in all, I view it just as another means of training. Its always going to be difficult if you push it hard. If you've been getting in a lot of volume recently, the high intensity of the singles will really improve the efficiency of that 1RM and you'll likely be hitting PR's every week for some time. 5 - 18 - 12 P. Clean & Push Press -2x220 -1x235 -1x245 -1x255 -1x265 -2x2x250 Squat -1x405 -1x440 -1x465 -3x2x430 Row -5x5x255 Well... I'm officially burnt out from this type of training mentally. I've said this in the past and been able to move forward, but these past few weeks have been hell. More than anything, I've just been fighting the boredom that comes with doing the same stuff and training alone. Not sure exactly what I'll be doing, but I'm leaning toward 3 or 4 days a week, full body. 3 days I'll work on getting in some higher volume (10s, 8s, 5s) and if there is a 4th day, I may just work up to a 1RM on the PCPP and squat. Volume will be a nice mental break from the high intensity stuff and should have a decent carry over to my max strength when I return to the daily max type training (which I plan on doing, because when its not boring, its awesome). Sounds awesome. Looking forward to seeing you demolish that side of the game as you do this side!

Strong session, and the idea looks really good. Any idea when you are going to start it up?

5 - 21 - 12
A quick "bye-bye daily max" session in the early PM... P. Clean & Push Press -2x220 -1x240 -1x255 -1x265 -1x270 -2x2x245 "Hello Volume" session in the late PM... P. Clean & Push Press -2x205 -5x215 -5x5x220 Squat -3x315 -5x365 -5x5x370 Pull Up -3x60 -5x5x70 Felt awesome. Was only to do 5x5 but both of my first sets felt way to easy so I bumped the weight up 5lbs. Still, felt like the weight floated up. Only problem was conditioning to this rep range lol. Weight felt light, but I felt a little rubbery. This is what Mondays will look like for the next 2 or so months. I don't know what the rest of the week is going to look like though and for that matter, how many days I'll be training. While I'm only 1 day in, I'm feeling very good and may figure some 5-day thing out... I don't know!!! Not sure whats up with the embed but... Last edited by BendtheBar; 05-22-2012 at 09:05 AM. |
