Congrats on that PR. You have many more great ones coming. Keep rolling.

Good question and you will probably get a lot of different answers. Some will advocate a belt only for the 85-90%+ reps. Some use it for most heavy work. Then you have guys like me that don't use one (but I am considered insane).

My advice is generally...use one for 85%+ work, but slowly get used to wearing it. A good belt might need some breaking in.

Here are a couple threads on belts that might help:

I pretty much agree with BtB. I only use a belt when I squat any more. Mostly because I like the feel of squatting in a belt, it helps me cue my abs and low back. I wear it kind of loose so that I have to expand a little to tighten it. But I only wear it for 75% and up. I'd say experiment with it a little to see what you like.

Really strong PR of 352 lbs Mark Will you be adjusted your tables to reflect that? Also liked you abwork.

I recently purchased a spud belt. I really love it. I wear it only on squats, and usually only on my 2 heaviest sets.

Great work on the deadlift PR!

With regards to the belt, I wear one for only my top set/singles but usually wear it loose to get it warm for couple sets before. I feel it really helps as a cue for bracing your core like Off Road was saying and it definitely helps with my lifts.

There aren't a great deal of suppliers in the UK of quality belts though, about the best is Pullum, quite expensive but quality stuff and will last a long time. I think another one is the strength shop or something. Most other options would include importing from overseas as far as I have found which can get a bit pricey.

Hope it helps anyway.
