Wednesday 9-11-11

This was much, much tougher today. By the time I get to the deads I'm shot. I've been ramping the weights up fairly aggressively on this, because I figured I started very low. But I think another 20-30 lbs on squats and deads will probably be about as far as I can go before I need to swap to something else.

Squats - beltless

Warm-ups
125 (275) X 5
130 (286) X 5
135 (297) X 5
135 (297) X 5
135 (297) X 5

Bench Press - first and last reps in each set paused

Warm ups
110 (242) X 5
110 (242) X 5
110 (242) X 5
110 (242) X 5
110 (242) X 5
110 (242) X 5

Deadlifts - beltless

Warm ups
130 (286) X 5
135 (297) X 5
140 (308) X 5
140 (308) X 5
140 (308) X 5

Time: about 50 minutes

That is a LOT of weight you are shifting there, Tann. For someone who says he's lost a lot of strength, your log isn't reading that way.

Thanks Nard. Well, for comparison, my all time bests are 308 X 8 bench, 420 X 6 squat, 154 X 14 strict standing press and 500 X 5 deadlifts. But to be fair, I was never any good at higher volume/frequency, so it's not surprising this routine is a challenge.

Friday 11-11-11

A rough old day at work meant my expectations were low for this workout. However, I seemed to whizz through it. It's possible that I'm pumped full of caffeine.

Bench press was a breeze, squats were fine. By the time I got deads, I was sweating bucketloads. On the way out, a guy I haven't seen for six months or so said 'still sweating, then?'

The answer is: yes, of course. All fat blokes sweat. It's part of our culture.

Squats - no belt

Warm ups
127.5 (280) X 5
132.5 (291) X 5
137.5 (303) X 5
137.5 (303) X 5
137.5 (303) X 5

Bench Press - first and last reps paused

112.5 (248) X 5
112.5 (248) X 5
112.5 (248) X 5
112.5 (248) X 5
112.5 (248) X 5
112.5 (248) X 5

Deadlifts - no belt

Warm ups
132.5 (291) X 5
137.5 (303) X 5
142.5 (314) X 5
142.5 (314) X 5
142.5 (314) X 5

That seems to be the way it goes for me 90% of the time. Feel sub-par, lift great.

You plan on staying on for a while, or have you planned ahead?

Steve, I really like the conditioning from this routine, but I'm thinking about doing a little powerlfting meet in February, and so I'm getting itchy for tackling some higher weights.

I'll give it at least another week, then I'll be casting around for a good strength program.
