Good work today as well. Some additional warm up sets should do you well. That said, with the heavier loads, it sometimes takes a few sets before that perfect groove is found.

Thanks again lads. I missed the deadlift PR today. Despite being very disappointed, I am actually oddly pleased for reasons I'll explain below.

Wednesday April 11
Deadlift
80x8
100x5
120x3
145x1
165x1
185x0 - I'm oddly pleased for the following reasons:
(1) - I warmed up right and gave myself plenty of rest between final 2 sets (around 5 minutes) so that can't be used as an excuse.
(2) - I gave absolutely EVERYTHING. Pulled as hard as possible for several seconds before going. So no regrets there.
(3) - Didn't get injured which is always good
(4) - I know EXACTLY why I missed. Simply put, my traps and upper back finally reached their limit which Fazc called a few weeks back. Off the floor I am more than ok and got to the knees fairly easily. However when my traps took over, the lift came to a halt. I could feel my traps and upper back strain like never before.

I'm always looking to up my upper back strength and this just reminded me why. MOAR heavy rows, dynamic shrugs, power cleans and chins/pulls. The next 14-15 week cycle will be epic My next 1RM test will come in August I think. We'll see where I am then. I'm very confident that good things will happen.

I'm repeating myself but I'll say it again: You never truly fail when you learn something.

Pendlay Rows
75x3
75x3
75x3
75x3
75x3 - Some good sets, some merely ok. More power needed.

Dynamic Shrugs - Just felt like doing some
60x5
100x5
120x3
125x3
130x3
135x3
140x3 - I really need to get these to 4 plates in the next few months. Hands utterly destroyed and on the verge of bleeding

Lat Pulldown
Pin 10 - 12, 10, 8

Seated DB arm curls
20x6
20x6
20x5
20x3 - Only took 15 seconds rest from 3rd set.

Russian twist + 10kg
3 x 12

And 4 chins to finish! 9 days rest though I may get one session in Galway next week depending on whether my friend is up for it!

Great effort man!!! I am of the opinion that anytime you learn something in the gym it is not a wasted session! Looking forward to seeing what you will do next! Enjoy the break.

I agree with Fazc's sentiments. A pleasure to read this.

You can never have enough back strength. Go bring it home Kuyt.

Great try for that 185! Too true, always valuable when you learn something.

Enjoy Ireland!
