Strong overhead work and a nice shrug PB. Not having problems with grip anymore?

The town of Kilkee has been called many things, diverse and exciting would not be two of them. Though 15 years ago it probably was.

Thanks mate.
For the shrugs I have the bar set at thigh height so I rest the bar there after each rep for a moment. Saw this in the Rippetoe dynamic shrug video. (Hope I am not wrong in doing this!)

I use liquid chalk for deads now and it has made an incredible difference!

Not wrong at all especially if it helps, I know which video, I'll be trying them out in the future.

I couldn't live without chalk, makes such a surprising difference.

Thanks Mate. The chalk is not a magic wand but it does give you confidence.

I have never used powder chalk J. When I brought in the liquid chalk, I heard other gym members complain. Since then, I have been more discreet about my usage of it.

Sunday April 1
My question about whether the dynamic shrugs would be effective was answered this morning. My traps are screaming! Very satisfying

Squats
65x5
85x3
105x2
120x1
120x1 - First rep was actually an inch high so I punished myself and did another!
135x1 - This was awesome. Best heavy single I've done. Felt super confident I would take out 3 plates.
140x0 - I made the rep but was not convinced I made depth and on replay, I was 1-1.5 inches high so this is not a PR. I have a fair idea what went wrong because I know I have the weight. Next week I'll make it.

127.5 - Singles x 5 - One or two may have been an inch high (I only recorded one but I am getting a 'feel' for depth so I know when I am a tad short). Still not being attacking enough.

Good Mornings
60x5
75x3
80x3
85x3
90x3
90x3 - recorded the first 90x3. It looks similar to the videos Steve posted. Need to get these babies up.

Chins
Decided to do a reverse ladder and it worked a treat. Did 2 sets during squat warm up and one set after the GM's. 30 reps total is definitely an improvement.
4,3,2,1 x 3

Hammer Curls
25 x 5 x 3 - PR of some sort. Need to go heavy on these gunz

Good session overall which would have been an awesome one had I hit the squat PR. I'll also mention that 140 felt light on my back which is encouraging.

*Edit - On 3rd and 4th viewing, the 140 squat was actually very good speed wise, just a fraction high and that is very annoying!!!

Strong squats, good to see you still took something away from the 140, you'll smash it next time.

This is a point I try to get across to many of the young guys who think they need super slow, mind muscle shrugs. Never underestimate the combination of explosive power and heavy iron.

Glad to hear it. Great sign. Sounds overly simplistic, but now if you take that 300 x 1 and turn it into 300 x 10 you'll be right around a 400 squat.

Most near maximal squats get kind of borderline. Don't get frustrated. That can be natural. Consider it a good thing.
