We had this discussion on another board recently. I think with conventional deadlifts particularly, but Sumo sometimes as well, it's not always beneficial to belt up. Especially if you're going for high(er) reps it can get in the way rather than help.

I know my brother pulls conventional and he gets the same either with belt or without a belt. But he has had some luck wearing the belt higher up, which might be something to consider.

What kind of belt do you use?

If you think it would be ineffective if worn any looser, have you tried lowering or raising where you wear it a bit? A few inches either way may be lest restricting on your breathing yet still provide adequate support.
