I had shoulder surgery last August. I was using the bar 3 weeks after surgery and used it every week until about week 11 or 12 when I added in the GCB. I did them with and without a box. With the box I'm about 75 lbs stronger than without in using the SSB. Its just easier to keep the weight on my heels on the box, but then again my squat form can be a mess at times. I think the GCB is great for stability. Although I think some of the fore and aft with that bar would irritate the pec in the early stages.

I think it all depends on how much stress getting under a straight bar puts on your pec tendon. I had a very limited ROM in my shoulder after the surgery but don't have any idea what you may face post surgery. I throw the bar in every 3-6 weeks to switch things up now. I have the EFS Yoke bar with the long handles. My only complaints are the paint job chips off it right away where the bar meets the rack. Also I can at times get a little off center on the bar, but I suppose you could avoid this by getting a 23+ inch neck.

In the long run its probably a wise investment, because there are always times where you want to give your shoulders, elbows and pec a break from all the straight bar squatting.

I am thinking that it is worth the investment. We have a texas squat bar, so its not bad on the peck because of how long it is, but at the same time I think the SSB would be a good addition to the gym.
