When I got to the gym, I did my first two sets, then discovered I'd done them 10kg too light. I have intermittent problems with grip, and tonight I couldn't hang onto the bar with a measly 202.5kg (447lbs) on. I was aiming to get eight - I got three before the bar started sliding out of my hands. Out came the straps and I only managed six. I've done 500 X 5 with no straps! Bench press was another horror show. Again, I've done 337 X 6. Tonight, it was 44lb down from that. One of those you-realise-you're-49 days. Deadlifts Warm ups 330 X 5 375 X 3 447 X 3 straps on 447 X 6 Stiff-legged deadlifts 265 X 6 286 X 6 286 X 6 Bench Press Warm ups 200 X 5 242 X 3 293 X 6 Close grip bench press 220 X 7 230 X 7 230 X 7 |

Friday 14th April
Pasted from the 100 rep squat challenge thread: Background Celebrated my birthday (49!!) with a few days away - returned yesterday with aching knees, numbness in one leg and back pain - I'm just not built for walking around cities. Saw the 100 rep challenge and couldn't stop thinking about it. Decided this morning that, regardless of any other considerations, it had to be done. Squat variation chosen Full back squats. All were well below parallel Weight selected 140 kg = 308lbs Bodyweight 215 Equipment Belt, knee sleeves (not wraps) How it went down Started 11:22. Did the first ten sets in fours - these took thirteen minutes. Break at 11:35 for five minutes. Next ten sets were done in threes - another 16 minutes. Halfway through these, I was seriously doubting I would make it. Couldn't manage any more threesafter this -had to go down to twos. Remaining 30 reps completed in fifteen sets. Finished at 12:15. Verdict It was not an hour I would care to repeat. My neck is raw from the bar slipping on the sweat. I had problems driving home and I've just had to shuffle up the stairs on my arse, because I can't really walk. Everything hurts. Pointless but weirdly satisfying. |

Thanks, Steve.
Sunday There have been two days of walking like a terminally damaged robot. The DOMS from that squat challenge have been spectacular. Not a promising start to the workout, as before I even got to the gym, my hamstring went into spasm on the stairs in my house, and I had to be rescued by Mrs. T. Lower body work was out of the question, but I managed some bench press and standing press. Standing press was poor: two reps down from last cycle, but maybe it was because I did bench press first, instead of on a separate workout. If not, I'm going backwards on 5-3-1. Pulldowns 165 X 5 176 X 5 187 X 5 200 X 5 211 X 4 Bench Press Warm ups 200 X 5 237 X 5 270 X 10 Strict standing press 132 X 5 154 X 5 176 X 5 |

On the bright side, it generally only lasts for about 10 days. Great work in here!

This is a test post to see if I can embed a youtube clip. If so, this is me benching a couple of years ago.

Thursday
Well, it's taken six days, but the DOMS from the squat challenge have finally disappeared. My back and hamstrings are still feeling vulnerable, however, so I missed any lower body work. Pleased with my progress on pressing movements following a disappointing showing last session. I think 176 X 8 is probably a PB for me on strict press. I think it's probably down to a herculean effort on the last three reps, however, rather than my strength going up. Top set on bench felt light as a feather today - which, to be fair, it is. Strict overhead press Warm ups 132 X 5 154 X 5 176 X 8 Bent over rows Warm ups 215 X 5 215 X 5 215 X 5 215 X 5 215 X 5 Bench Press Warm ups 200 X 5 237 X 5 270 X 10 Close grip bench press 230 X 7 230 X 5 |
