I am Big Al. Bench has needed the most work this year. Bench day with the crew is crucial for me because of the spotting and instruction. In fact, some members travel 2 hours one way just to train bench with them.

SQUAT/DEADLIFT SESSION

Slept in this AM, so I missed training with the crew. Lower back tweak was there, but not bad. I stretched it out before breaky and then relaxed for a couple of hours. At this point, I was feeling really good and decided to lift in the JimGym. The plan was to play each set by ear, doing singles, and listen to the old bawd. I'd take what it was willing to give me.

Squat
Bar X10
95 X5
115 X5
135 X5
155 X3
185 X3
205 X2
225 X2
245 X2
275 X1
295 X1
315 X1
335 X1
360 X1 Vid
375 X1 Vid
390 X1 Vid
Stopped here because form started to breakdown slightly on the 360, and a bit too much for comfort on the 390, but still overall not bad. The good news is that they were all feeling light on my back. However, I did not have the confidence in my lower back to squat heavier. For these 2 reasons, I half squatted the following:
405 X1
415 X1
425 X1
440 X1
Lower back held up, so I decided to do some deadlifts:

Deadlift
135 X3
225 X2
315 X1
365 X1
405 X1
385 X1
365 X1

Sumo Deadlift
315 X1
315 X1
315 X1

As of tonight, lower back feels like a million bucks, thank God. My treatment plan of lifting thru it seems to have worked. I'll rest Monday, and then hit some Bench on Tuesday. Focus on bench will be to work with 135 strictly on back tightness, just like I was in the video from the crew bench session on Saturday.

Pretty impressed that the old back allowed you to get some deads in afterwords. Hope it feels good this week.

Great stuff, Jim! Always amazed at how hard you work. Glad the back is OK.

I was surprised Steve. After the 390 squat, I t was feeling a bit tender, so I stopped squats. I then thought I would try a light 135 set of deads. It put up a bit of a fuss, but did not for the 225. After the last set, it felt great. So far today, it feels great. I think I have successfully worked the knot/tweak out.

Thanks Mark!1 My pesky low back acts up sometimes. It can be my strongest point and my weakest point. I want to bend like a bow and get that ROM reduced!!

Thanks Mike!! Your words mean alot. I may be outlifted, but will not be outworked in the gym. The crew brings out the best in me.

Is there a way to squat so it doesn't feel like your knee's about to blow out across the room?
