MAX EFFORT SQUAT/DL
Squats to warm-up Bar x lots Bar x lots 60kg's x 8 Deadlifts from floor 60kg's x 5 sumo + 5 conventional 100kg's x 3 sumo + 3 conventional Add boxes 130kg's x 1 but couldn't get the bar close enough to my shins with shoes on so Remove boxes, add 2x20kg's plates under each foot 130kg's x 1 Better 150kg's x 1 170kg's x 2 180kgs x 2 Added baby powder on the thighs after this set as my hands dragging on my thighs was slowing the bar down and making lockout harder than it should have been 190kg's x 2 200kg's x 1 PB (actually as this is the first time I've done these heavy, everything over 150kg's was a PB but I'm only counting this one) Bulgarian Split Squats 3 sets of 10 rep's per side holding 15kg's dumbells I think this is a PB, certainly for rep's Shrugs 240kg's x 10 270kg's x 12 PB +3rep's Abzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Kneeling cable crunches superset with leg raises 50kg's x 10 (poor form) ss 20 40kg's x 15 (much better) ss 20 40kg's x 15 (might have been more but I was trying so hard to stop myself from being sick that I lost count) ss 20 I was down to one training partner for today anyways but then woke up to a text that Dave had sent early doors to say that he had been up all night being sick so wouldn't be training. This meant that block pulls were out as I can't load the bar and then lift it onto the blocks by myself without expending shitloads of energy so, inspired by Aurik, I decided to do some deficit pulls for doubles. Last time I did these for speed I used the boxes and they worked fine barefoot but in converse, I was just too hight to get under the bar properly so I put some plates up instead. The thing with deadlifts is that from the bottom, anything over about 3pps feels heavy but they all feel equally heavy if that makes sense. I guess that's a good thing. I pulled in my lifting suit today which helped as my hands catch my shorts a lot on sumo. Still had to use the baby powder though, that was really a difference maker on the last two sets. I really slow down at the top of the movement and baby powder just reduces the friction enough that I can keep it moving. The 200 was an absolute grinder but I stayed with it despite almost passing out and locked it out with no hitching, I think! (Video to come later for adjudication.) Need to continue to work on glute strength to help at lockout. If people have suggestions for exercises on this other than dumbell/KB swings, I'm interested. Split squats are ridiculous. Bearing in mind that my barbell squat is knocking on the door of 200kg's, 3 sets of 10 with 30kg's total dumbell weight hurt a HUGE amount. Love them. Going to continue to work on these and step ups to improve stability and hip strength/mobility. Very pleased with my shrugs PB (as you'll see from the video later). I wasn't sure if I could get one after all of the DL's but I loaded the bar and gave it my best shot. Turns out my best shot was good for a 3 rep' PB. Good times. I'm getting into the groove on my ab' training now. Getting in two lots per week. Hopefully it'll make a difference because it is not pleasant at the end of a long session, choking back breakfast while I crunch ![]() All in all today was an A+ session. It took a litle while but bearing in mind it took almost 10minutes total to just load and unload the shrug bar, I'm cool with that. Now the plan is to finish my litre of chocolate milk (AMAZING post-training drink), have a shower and do some food shopping and house chores before I collapse. Will post video and check everyone's logs later. (Apologies for the lengthy/stream of consciousness style post today, I am both still psyched and still wired from the pre-training caffeine ).LtL
