Tabatas are just intervals, but its 20 seconds MAX effort then 10 seconds recovery and you repeat it 8 times. So just 4 mins but it is supposed to really get the metabolism firing. You are supposed to do it with any movement the uses as many muscle groups as possible, i ike rows cos it doesnt really have any carry over on the rest of the workout. If you do 1 round of tabats after a normal 20-30 mins MiT session you should get some good fat burning effects...

I turned my garage into some of a mans wet dream. it's a 3 car garage. One half the garage has grappling and fighting mats, Heavy bags, Ground dummies and everything I need for fighting and the other half is nothing but weights. I hate lifting in public gyms. If you have a home, Save some bucks here and there and check out the penny saver or craiglist. I found my olympic bench on craiglist for 70.00 and it came with 300lbs of weight. The guy needed cash fast..Now this is if you live in America. If you live in Europe, I dont know what you guys use out there.

Tabata Research

The Tabata is named after Izumi Tabata, Ph.D., a former researcher at Japan's National Institute of Fitness and Sports.

What's a Tabata? (from the CrossFit FAQ at crossfit.com)

For twenty seconds do as many reps of the assigned exercise as you can - then rest 10 seconds. Repeat this seven more times for a total of 8 intervals, 4 minutes total exercise. The score is the least number of reps for any of the eight intervals.

Explain Tabata This (from the CrossFit FAQ at crossfit.com)

Tabata Intervals ( 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated 8 times) is applied in turn to the Squat, Rower, Pullups, Sit-ups, and Push-ups with a one minute rotation break between exercises.

(my notes) You can use other exercises. If you use weighted exercises, do not use heavy, difficult movements like squats or deads.

NOW. Here is a 16 Minute Tabata timer to pump you up.
