'A' SESSION
Bench Press Bar x lots 65kg x 8 75kg x 5 87.5kg x 6 87.5kg x 6 87.5kg x 6 65kg x 9 upped the weight on the top set compared to last session and kept the reps the same CS T-Bar Row 32.5kg x 10/10/10 upped weight on last session One-arm Standing DB Press 25kg x 10 PB ![]() 25kg x 8 25kg x 6 drop setted 2handed DB Press 25kg x 4/20kg x 4/17.5kg x 5 the 22.5's were missing, so I just used the next ones along the rack Ill stick to this weight now and just up the reps, then though i would go straight and drop set some regular standing presses...BB Curls 30kg x 10/10/10 Squats 70kg x 5 100kg x 5 130kg x 4/4/3 ![]() I tried the Reeves idea of putting the squats at the end, but it didnt really work for me tbh. I was late to the gym anyway so dropped the cleans and decided to start with the bench. i uped the weight on the bench compared to doing it after squats, but i think i caould have done that anyway - dunno !! However, when i got the the squats i was beat, i may have rushed through too quick on the other stuff as I was running late and thats what caused it I dont know, but the squats were not as strong as normally and i dont think the upper body stuff was much stronger than normally, and certainly there wasnt enough of a difference to justify the weights having to drop in the squats. I think ill just stick to what i know ![]() Carl.

Solid session buddy. Bench strength seems to be on the up.
I can't see me ever doing a good job of squats at the end of a session, just too tired. LtL

![]() Cheers Gaz, its funny. i havent focused on bench for ages, just OH pressing, but it has seemed to increase my bench numbers without even trying. Session A sees me benching before OH pressing, but session B seems me OH pressing and then doing dips and it seems to definitely work better for me that way round. I think there is too much focus on Bench and IMO OH Pressing is a better move and will build the upper body pressing strength better, for me at least, but then im not looking to compete in the Bench press, so mileage may vary ![]() Carl.

If you're competing in the bench press, train the bench press (or variants). If you're not competing then things like dips, OHP, Inclines, dumbell bench may well give you better returns in terms of size (certainly) and all-round pressing strength (maybe). I know my strongman friends rarely train bench as strongman pressing events are generally overhead yet both bench 4pps+. Go figure.

If you are competing in ANYTHING you have to practice that specifically otherwise you will fail. FACT !!

Always a good thing to experiment with different ideas - how ill you know if something works or not unless you try?
I have seen lately quite a few guys at the other site doing a routine by Dorian Yates that focuses on pre exhausting the muscles and doing major lifts like squats and deads last in the routine. I don't like it as I think risk of injury is too high, unless maybe one is a strong advanced lifter already. Awesome work as always with the progression Carl

![]() I have used deadlifts after a back session before and they are quite good as a finisher and risk of injury isnt too high, and i have done squats AFTER leg extensions so the quads are wrecked already and you use more hamstring (apparently) but honestly Id rather have the bigest and heaviest lift of the session first so you can give it your all and hit the most muscles with the most weight. i tend to then do exercises in order of preference and size (with exception of the shoulders as doing them before bench mean they get a heavier workload AND the bench doesnt rely on the shoulders as much so the chest get hit harder IMO). You are right though you have to try these things. I have no idea why 90% of people on the other site should be trying to train like Dorian Yates tbh, but what do i know ![]() Carl.
