Sleep and rest are good.
When I was in the Army Val, It was hard to balance serious running, and weightlifting. The combined effect was a serious CNS hit. I ended up not training lower body as hard with weights, and concentrating on running a lot more. I was putting in about 85 miles a month running, but like you, I started to have some issues with my ankles, and for me all of my joints. I cut back on my running to about 40 miles a month, and worked a little more weights for more legs. Eventually I started riding my bike a lot more seriously, and that was a major part of my leg training. I did lots of hill work, and sprinting. I really miss riding my bike like that. I need to take it off the hooks in the garage and go ride it. You'll find your balance. |

Will do, Chief.

Hibernation is coming. I must eat too. I have one last possible workout reserved for BTB and jslep if the upcoming weekend will allow. Otherwise I'm down to two or three 5K trainers and the actual run next weekend. I can't wait for this to be over though. Quote:

I have one page left in my lifting notebook. I was going to fill it up Thursday night, but decided to leave it open in case I get a chance to hang and bang with BTB and jslep this weekend. If it happens, great. If not, meh.
I felt really good Thursday night, so I grabbed my runners and partook of some training. Thursday, 2/24/11 5K training 50 laps around the running track (2.75 miles more or less). No official time, but according to the analog clock on the wall, it was about 28 minutes (give or take). I ended very strong. My last two laps were as close to sprinting as I could get. I was sharing the track with an elderly Vietnamese couple. They must have thought I was loco, or whatever loco is in their native language. Looking very good for a 35 minute 5K. I might even try to push for 30 minutes.

Someday we will, my friend. I want to come up sometime and have "someone" (*big val emphasises the word "someone," and stares at jslep*) who has done a PL meet watch me squat, and call out depth. I'm hoping to hear, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, you're going waaaaay too deep."

Sunday, 2/27/11
Ran 2.75 miles in 27:33. I walked the remaining 5K distance as a cool down. My total time was 32:33. Looks like I'm capable of a sub 35 minute time. I'm going to shoot for 30 minutes.

Wednesday, 3/2/11
Final 5K training session. I ran 3 miles in 31:04.77. Not too bad for an old fart. First 5K and all. 60 hours from now I'll be able to kick off my running shoes and I'll never have to put them on again. At least that's what I like to tell myself. Forecast for Saturday is highs in the mid to upper 20's. Not at all what I'd hoped for. Two weeks ago it was in the 50's, and I was starting to see patches of grass in the yard. Six inches of snow later, and "Welcome back, Winter."
