Thank you, nighttrain. You seem to understand my heart. I wish I could begin to describe the wave of emotions that came over me yesterday. I can't, so I won't attempt. Just my second day of "training," and already I'm doing retro enteries.
Saturday, 8/7/10 Cals:2,471 Carbs:348 Fat:68 Protein:120 Training: Not much today, I did about 10 minutes of dynamic stretching for my legs, followed by about 5 minutes of static stretching. Tried to do some shoulder rotations, but my right shoulder is still so jimmied up. I think I'll need some PT sessions. I toyed with the notion of hitting the "Y" for some treadmill time, but I didn't want to push my luck. Trumpet: 15 minutes. Nice and easy. Stretched my range to just over an octave. Not going to push anything. Basically I survived one entire warmup exercise. Back in college, a good warmup session for the day lasted about 45 minutes. I'll go for a bit more on Sunday.

I think I was too ambitious by getting the doctor to release me to work next Tuesday. My short term disability covers me until August 31. I might see if I can't get the doctor to write me a new note. That will give me time to deal with pain management, begin eating real food, and work on shoulder and neck mobility. I go back to Mayo tomorrow to meet with the XRT team. If they recommend immediate radiation therapy, I'm sure I'll be good for an extended leave. More trumpet playing is in store for today, and maybe a trip to the "Y."
