08.28.10 USAPL Bull Stewart Classic Seattle, WA Deadlift 222.5kgs (490.5lbs) - Good Lift 245.0kgs (540.1lbs) - No Lift 245.0kgs (540.1lbs) - No Lift Result First Place - Open 165 Raw - This was a very disappointing meet because I was nearly at lock-out with 540, but couldn't finish it, like my 545 failed attempt in the gym. 540 would've been a 5lb PR. Instead, I was only successful with my opener of 490, which was 45lbs below my best deadlift of 535 from the meet prior to this one, five months ago. Yes, you read that correctly. I was unable to get a 5lb PR in 5 months. ![]() - Starting in either early or mid September, I will begin the Smolov squat program, a totally different training protocol and something that I wanted to try over the past year or two, but never got around to it. The plan is to use Smolov to peak for a USAPL full-power (squat, bench, dead) meet, most likely on the first Saturday of December, unless I go back to NYC. http://www.ontariostrongman.ca/resou...squatcycle.htm

Dude tough stuff. Try widening your stance and pushing out your knees more. Your speed off the floor is too fast and easy for you to miss lockout. Has to be technical error the strength is there.

Tony, I won't be pulling until I compete in early December, except possibly during the two-week switching phase of Smolov. There won't really be much opportunity to work on deadlift technique, just squatting like a madman, along with some bench press and accessory lifts. 08.31.10 I got bored and decided to go to the gym at least once until I start Smolov soon, but it was a mediocre session. I tried the behind-the-neck jerk/press which I haven't done since probably 2005 or 2006. That didn't go well at all, possibly because my CNS was still affected by the deadlift meet on Saturday. After that, I did something else which wasn't quite as dismal and embarrassing. Bottom-Position Quarter-Squat: 455x0, 425x1, 425x0 - The successful 425 was a real grinder and incredibly difficult for a partial squat, but that's expected because there's no eccentric portion (descent) preceding the concentric accent. Therefore, the stretch reflex is completely removed and the lift is consequently more difficult, even when it's not performed in the full range of motion. - If you listen closely, you can hear a pathetic personal trainer tell his client, "That doesn't make sense", followed by something else that's unintelligible to me. Can you guys make out what he said? - I'm excited about starting Smolov in a few days. 1200 total, here I come!
