I will start a 5/3/1 routine. My plan is to lift three days a week (Sun, Tues, Thurs seems to work best), so the four parts of the routine will be spread out over eight or nine days. This should allow ample recovery time and maybe let me sneak in a couple days of cardio, if Spring ever arrives. I haven't yet fleshed out the details of assistance work, except to say that I will keep things in a "bodybuilding vein," meaning that I might do my assistance work dc style, or in a more classic bodybuilding set/rep scheme. I haven't decided yet. I'll allow myself a few weeks to settle in. My actual one rep maxes have been established. I am going to knock off 10% right away and start from there. I am determined to give this at least three cycles before I decide if I like it or not. By the end of the third cycle I should be in new PR range. Let the havoc begin.

I am very excited for this log big guy, I will be following closely. I have wanted to do wendler's 531 for a while, but then fell in love with chaos and pain. I think I am going to do before I compete though.
Looks like a solid plan to me, hit it hard!!

Thanks everybody. I'm really jazzed up about this. I'm going in to squat tomorrow evening. For assistance work right now I'm planning a set of widowmaker leg presses, and some SLDL's a couple of sets for 10 - 15 reps or so. The assistance work is going to be somewhat fluid for now until I can dial in on some exercises and rep ranges whilst fitting everything into a 40 minute time limit.
The main thing is that I've got some numbers to shoot for, some realistic and acheivable goals for the next few months, and a desire to become the baddest weight smashing animal in my gym. I'm gonna get big and round, then chisel it. All just in time to scare off the daughters' boyfriends. I think I've said this before, but I am so glad for Muscle and Brawn. This is by far the best, most helpful, and supportive forum I've ever been a part of. Thank you, gentlemen for your encouragement and help. Thank you, Steve for this way cool forum. Y'all are the best!
