it helps build different parts of your bench press. A one board is actually harder for me than a full range press....two and three boards can hammer your lockout as well as help you handle more weight to be more confident with your full range pressing.. perhaps this is only one or a couple persons thinking. however I know around the 3board range is where i lost my final attempt - don't get me wrong I do not think this is a replacement for full range. I don't think they're nearly as useful as in geared lifting but can still be implemented with great success...not a replacement at all for full range just a simple training tool

with that being said, we train with all boards, 1 all the way 3 (rarely ever will i even hold the 4board since my chest size and arm length make it kind pointless) lol

doing them for a main movement is good when you use a board right at your sticking point because it takes away all the momentum off your chest...then speed work can teach you explosion to blast through the sticking point..can you get a big bench without them? absolutely, same can be said about bands and chains, but the more you have at your disposal the more you can blow through your weaknesses and sticking points. but these are just reasons we use them - granted I stand behind the fact they are more beneficial for geared lifting - but I still find good use for them in raw - but nothing replaces full range which we both can agree on

12/28/2012 Not sure what to call this day... glorified shoulder mobility and epic spotter day I assume
Warmed up (foam roll, rotator cuff, etc,e tc) Shoulder Horn 3x8x15lbs DB Band Face Pulls 4x12xblue kilo band Standing Abs w/ Band 5x30 Ab Roller 4x10 Weird day lol, I spent the majority of the time just spotting everyone else that was in today, couple guys hit some PR's and went for some PR's so I wanted to do everything I could to help them. tomorrow starts the training cycle so itll be fun times.

That's cool. I've just always felt that the issue is at the bottom, that I don't generate enough velocity from the start of the movement to finish it If I can do a 3 or 4 boardpress with 100lbs more than I can bench I think "where's my weak point at?" It's at the bottom. But that's whats great about lifting going different roads to get to one place.
