So the main issue with that bottle is that I'll be travelling only using carry-on luggage - I need to find a bottle that's 3.4 ounces or less.

It'll be all US travel... at least for the first year or so. Basically I'll be a private sector consultant working in one of the following areas - finance, industrial, telecomm, or energy (haven't decided which one yet though)

I assume you can purchase a small generic bottle and transfer some into it? Or is that verboten these days? I don't travel much so I am clueless.
