Great work Mike! that has to make up a little for an off deadlift day haha!

Next week we will back off the squat some that way we have some better legs/back for the deadlift. Basically the opposite of this week.

Just incase anyone is wondering, Mike's projected max when we started was 335! Has a legit shot at a 400lb squat on meet day.

I wish I could take credit, but that is all Mike. He and Jim busted their butts, I was just lucky enough to help pick some weights and exercises for them!

I hope so KD. I'm paying for it today. I feel like I got beat by monkey swinging a bag of rocks! I mean everything hurts. I need to rolling pin my whole body.

Thanks Jim. I think I could maybe have hit 385 with a better ramp up. But 405is close for sure. That's really cool. It's funny, getting to 315 was a lot harder to get too than 405 seems to be. Weird.

Thanks Elite. Nice to know I'm not alone with those pesky deadlifts. And I actually love doing them too. You'd think they'd how some love back to me for goodness sake!

You should take a good chunk of the credit JB! We did the work, sure, but I for one was floundering around a little aimlessly and would not be hitting these numbers without the directions you provided. And I am learning a lot about how periodization is making it easier when it comes time to hit singles again.

Next routine I do is going to have a big volume component for sure.

Yeah, good idea JB about easing up on the squats and see how that affects the deadlifts. I've been so focussed on squats for the last year, maybe I need to shift that a little bit the other way now.

How about working in some Sumos too? To save the back a little more? Just thinking out loud. Let me know what you think.

That is what it is all about Mike, finding what works for you and hammering away at it. You responded well to some higher rep stuff, and then tapering down. Keep that in mind how ever you choose to go when this is done. Adding in sumos will help, so we will add those as assistance work in next weeks deadlift. Keep up the great work!

Take a hot shower then get to rolling!

Thanks Dave! This summer for sure. 405 squat has been a dream of mine for like a year. And frankly two years ago, I never expected to ever make it to a 400 lb squat. Funny how things change as you go along.

Thanks, JB! I'm pretty sure I want to do the Cube next after the meet in April. We'll see. I also want to add in some more fun stuff this summer like cleans and strongman stuff. I've been itching to do that stuff. The goal has always been to bring up my powerlift numbers then branch out into other lifting activities.

Good day today, but dammit, just missed 290 on the bench. I mean I had it, but a shitty liftoff doomed it. Crap. I'll get it next time though!

JBPP week 9

warmups: arm and shoulder stuff

Bench:
3x 225
1x 245, 260, 275 (no trouble)
0x 290 (Bitter!)

High Pin Press, just below 2 board height:
3x 235, 245, 250, 245, 235 (I was on fumes by the end, last rep was fugly)

Lat Pulldowns: 5x 15x 150
A lot of arm and chest stretching and some easy curls thrown in too.

0x 290, Language warning!:
Hit the pin on the liftoff, so it took too long to lower and I couldn't stay tight that long once it stalled.

I'll get it next time for sure. At least that much weight in my hands didn't feel too out of place.

And JB, don't know if this means anything, but my biceps are the most sore muscle immediately afterward.

Easy deadlifts, some massive shrugs and high rep rows tomorrow, then it's week 10 on Monday. I'm looking forward to an "easier" squat day. Been a while since I had one of those! Bench, I'm not worried about. I always recover fast from benching.

It looks to me like you just lost your groove. 290 is really close tho!! I am sure you smell blood.

Only form comment is to once you create your arch is to keep feet still and planted. It seems like you may be losing a touch of tightness if you fidget around.

Great stuff overall Mike. My bench PR is now 285. It's pretty cool to be at the same point these days, and I hope we both progress well in 2013.
