My second labmate mentioned at this juncture that he lifts weights to help with his biking / triathlon (trains mainly squat and deadlifts), and she though that's just fine since it's not "bodybuilderish" and merely helps improve sports performance. This just shows the general perception. The moment you say weight lifting or bodybuilding, they associate it with images of Cutler and steroids. Do the same thing and say its for sports, and everyone things its cool, plus sportsmen look awesome. A bit of background about her to put things in perspective - she used to be an excellent swimmer pre-injury and won a silver in Turkish junior nationals, and during her competitive swimming days used to be put through an hour of weight training 4-5 days a week by her coach in order to get stronger for her sport. So she isn't exactly a stranger to training. But mention the word "weight lifting" or "bodybuilding" and everyone assumes steroids, comic book physiques and go off in a tizzy. |

Well, I should say a real weight. She has pink 5lb dumbbells that she uses to strengthen her legs. Whatever that means.
