Thanks BtB! Back is making slow progress, but some days it still hurts pretty bad.

I'm not necessarily rotating the foot. I am just not placing it directly behind me, rather placing it out to the side a little.

Thanks Jim. The rows seem to be OK, although they cause some slight stiffness/discomfort later in the day.

Default 2/24/13 Legs

I tried back squating this morning. I made some pretty major form adjustments.
I used a high bar placement. I want to do whatever I can to prevent/minimize torque on my lower back.
I took a wider stance. There was a comment by Soldier in a thread within the last couple of weeks, which suggested using foot placement to increase or decrease squat depth. I thought this was a solid idea and wanted to give it a go. I want to decrease my depth. Part of my squat issues may be that I am going A2G. I just want to start touching parallel. No more. With my back I won't be competing anytime soon, I just want to squat for strength, function, and hypertrophy, not to get passed in a meet.
This shallower squat depth also prevents/minimizes torque on my injured lower back.
One last note, i am going to focus more on reps of 8 and above.

Back squat
95x8,135x8,185x8,205x8

Lunges
25x10,10,9

Leg curls
Mini bandsx22,23,25

Overall Workout Grade: C+

Notes:
Had more in the tank on squats. The lower back started feeling tinder. I just don't want to push it. It was nice to put a bar across my back.

Great to see you were able to get some squats in Josh. I like high bar as well.

Considering the position you were in recently with regard to squats, I'd give that sesh a big fat "A". Anytime Big J can squat and progress with minimal to no pain or aggravation is a great day. Love it!!

Will you be using a bench or box to train your butt where to stop?

Thanks Jim!! I considered using my bench. I might do so as the weight goes up. However, at this lighter load I didn't really struggle to stop. The bench or box is a good idea and I will keep it in mind as things progress.
Thanks!

BB Curl

Overall Workout Grade: A-

Notes:
No PRs. Nothing really outstanding. But wasn't a bad session either.
Bench is still feeling a bit stale. Hit my goal, but I expected a rep or 2 more.
BB row is feeling really good. I think this is my third week using it after a year or 2 of db rows. I really like how it feels. And the best part is that I'm noticing some real progress on my lower back and ab strength. This movement is not bothering my lower back much at all.
Finished with some arm work. Pump teh gunz. Yeah buddy.

I was going to do the Wendler 100 rep challenge through November and decemeber, but I think I may scrap the Upper/Lower approach all together for a couple months. I've been running this type of routine for well over a year and a half. I think I've earned and need some change. Right now I'm leaning towards a 4 day bro split bro. Sounds like fun when I think about it. I will probably run my old 4 day split that I ran years ago. It worked great at the time.

Indeed, gotta have fun each and every session. For that reason alone it sounds like its time to change. It does sound like you have progressed so much with the health of the lower back as I see squats and BB Rows and core work. Is there anything bothering it right now?

Nice work Josh. Squatting without pain is awesome. Bench looks good as usual. Might not be quite what you did in the past, but it's not much off that either.

Good stuff.
