I might have told this story before but back when I was in Liverpool I was training at the gym where I used to practice Vale Tudo. Anyway, this elderly scouse gentleman (who bore a remarkable resemblance to Lloyd Bridges) was training three younger guys on how to do Olympic lifts. He was really quite good as well. I asked him a little bit about my squat form and he said I wasn't pushing my hips through. So he gets under the bar himself, and proceeds to squat, with each rep he shoves his hips violently forward and screams out

'FCUK THE WALL, **** THE WALL!'

Imagine that, Lloyd Bridges with a scouse accent, hips flaying widly and screaming at the top of his lungs - FCUK THE WALL!

That's how you teach technique - I never forgot that form pointer, I tell you.

Not meaning to side track but thats a great point. Bolton is a great example of it. If you watch him warm up he looks like he is "humping" the bar.

Swings are also good to hit the hips and glutes with the same motion.

I was very lucky. At the age of 18, and only a month into my training, my mentor told me to stop pushing with the legs when squatting. His advice was "drive the hips forward."

It's the single best piece of training advice I've received.
