Default Caffeine

How much caffeine is too much caffeine in a day for a 16 year old? I tend to reach for the Mt. Dew a lot any more. I guzzle a lot of it down during the week, up to 6 cans a day.

Before you ask about caffeine just calculate the amount of sugar you are drinking in every day. That will make you think twice about drinking so many cans per day. Sugary drinks are awful for you in many ways.

Agreed here, the sugar in the Dew is just empty calories.

I used to drink anywhere from half a gallon to a gallon of mountain dew a day when I was 15 and 16. I also drank pop in abundance prior to this, but I remember my mountain dew days quite well. I got about 2.5 hours of sleep every night. With my lifestyle I was a fat 180 lb six footer. Sink that one in. I'm not saying you live or look anyway like I did, but too much for too long will really get to you.

Anymore I'm so intolerant to caffeine that I can't take a pre workout at 3 PM and hope to sleep before 1 AM. Basically, drink less. A lot less. You'll look and feel better. (For the record, it's very rare I drink anything otherthan milk or water these days)

Its not really healthy for you to do this to your body. But beware, do not cut cold turkey. Then you will get lots of headaches I am sure. Gradually cut the dew out of your diet and you will do much better.

Thanks for all the advice. I do not have trouble really sleeping. I just crave the dew. I will slowly ween myself off of it.

What are you wanting out of your efforts in diet and fitness? Have you started a journal here on Steve's forum? It may be a good idea, and would possibly provide much needed support in your personal efforts.

Your issue (at least with the limited personal information about you, which leaves room for error), is more psychological and a matter of self discipline in wanting to personally remove consumption of the soft drink.

Best wishes in all that you want to accomplish in life and within your fitness.

I can drink 2 litres of caffeinated soda and sleep like a baby, give me a small glass of alcohol and I climb the walls. I don't drink soda regularly, just highlighting that it affects everyone slightly diferently

Good to hear you're going to ween off it; make a detailed weekly plan for that otherwise you won't stick to it and will still be on it in a year...seen it happen too many times.

Glad to hear that you are going off it. Soda is just not a healthy choice. Has way to much sugar that will get you no where.
