I can usually move more weight on tri pushdowns with overhand grip compared to underhand grip, but somehow "feel" the triceps better with the underhand grip - and am hence sticking to the underhand grip for now.

What's the key difference between these two grips in terms of muscle recruitment?

Edit: Just saw you use a V-handle for the underhand as well (as opposed to the straight bar). Wouldn't you have the to roate your wrists quite a bit with the V-handle underhand grip?

I have a rotating "V" handle NOT a fixed one. Its a lot easier on my elbows. I still use a streight bar once in a while.

Over hand recruiters the outer head, ropes over all 3 heads and more in the upper area of the heads by the delt tie ins (like a Db kick back just with the resistance a little diffrent), underhand hits the inner head more.

Power lifting you don't care about symmetry just brute power. This comes more from the inner head for heavy presses.

Generally the outer head is always smaller on people.

As a competitive bodybuilder were your judged on symmetry you want all 3 head evenly developed. Just like legs just as developed as upper body. Any under developed area compared to the rest of you will cost ya.

You can push more over hand or ropes probably due to your pushing not gripping and pulling like underhand. Underhand you also work your grip.
Generally people also end up kicking the elbow out more on overhand, this allows the lats to help out secondary.

This is my and others outlook as a pro bodybuilders.

After eating things not going to good. Think I still have a bug. I am taking today (8th ) as a weekly off day. Running to rest room enough without pushing for a lift.
