These are 2 big rules for me.

When I feel tired, or not into a workout I force myself to do more volume. It's important for me to be in control...mind over body.

To #9...This has kept me from injury over the years. I never push a strain or pain beyond a reasonable limit.

My first thought was "What if you're doubtful about being done?"

I'm a wise ass, what can I say?

Great tip SB!

I once had a guy train me. He played college ball for BYU, and was a professional boxer. His name was Todd Watts and no man could ever match his ability to push you mentally. I wish I had it in me to train like he made me train.

An example:
The hooks on the bench could rotate, one side was short so you could put it back, the other side was tall so you didn't dump it off the bench when racking it. Sounds like a normal bench right? Yeah, minus the rotation of the hooks on the rack. So when you thought you were pushing yourself, he'd keep saying 3 more, okay 2 more, give me 1 more, now two more. And when you thought you were done, he'd rotate the heads the wrong way so you couldn't rack the weight. He'd make you hit reps with weights that you couldn't believe. He'd give you just the slightest assistance if you were going to fail - to make you drive through the lift.

The first time he did it to me I got up in his face like none other. Not that I could have done anything. But it quickly became a normal training protocol, and I never gainer more strength or size as quickly as I did training with him.

Like Andy Ruse said "No hooks means no way out".

Anyways, that was a long time ago and now I'm a sissy.
