I flew in on Thursday for a Friday morning weigh in. I was 300.8 so I had plenty of room to spare on the weigh ins. After weigh in I went to Elitefts with some of my training partners. I was able to do some mobility work and to flush my muscles with good blood flow. During that time my training partner squatted and benched. I got to spend a few hours talking back and forth with Dave Tate about training and various other things. Was really a good time. FYI Dave Tate is a very large man!

The meet itself was interesting to say the least. The platform was carpet, but it was taped down on rubber matting. Lots of people, including myself had issue with set up as their feet slide. I couldnt really use that as an excuse because we all were dealing with the same things. The benches in the back were different than the ones on the stage as well. May seem small, but when I bench is 3 inches higher on the platform than the warm up room its a problem. Either way, I still had to lift!

Squat warm ups went great, felt strong.

925 opener, I babied it a little due to the platform, but still a nice clean lift (2-1 by the judges)

965 2nd attempt, was much faster. I really hammered this one good 2-1 by the judges

1015 3rd, came out the rack a little fwd. Came out hard, moved it a little, just wasnt my day. This would have been a meet PR

Most of you know 364 days before this meet I had a pec major reattached. That is one of those injuries people dont expect you to come back from. I would be telling a lie if I said I wasnt nervous about how my pec would react.

Warm ups went great, felt strong

660 opener- nice and easy

685 2nd attempt- nice clean lift

705 3rd, adjusted the shirt, was just too much weight. This would have been a meet PR.

Deadlift warm ups went fast, there was no break between bench and we were flying.

675 opener- crazy light, so light the bar whip caught me at the top and I lost control of it. It looks like I just pick it up and put it down, but I didnt.

675 again- they wanted me to go up, but I wanted to secure my place at the Arnold. Again it was stupid light haha.

735- I went big for the PR total and BIG PR deadlift. Smoked it right up to lockout and my glutes failed me! It would have been a good gym lift, but not good enough for this big of a stage. It was the right call by both me and the judges.

So final total was 2325, I had a pretty bad day numbers wise. That is still the pro total at 308, won the 308 class, and had the 2nd biggest total overall. So for a bad day, I will take the win!

I am really thankful for all the support here at MAB. If not for you guys I dont know if I would have ever made it back to this level. Thank You!

I know it's nowt what you wanted, but last year when you got injured I wasn't sure if you'd be back. Just glad this day finally came.

Not sure what organizers are going to do about carpeting at meets. Same thing at WPC Wordls in Vegas for me last year. I was told many of the equipped guys were refusing to squat on carpet. At any rate, your right about just having to deal with the adversity.

A big congratz on what really has to be said a very successful meet for you. The numbers will be better at the next one, as I am sure you will be able to figure out any adjustments that may be needed in your training.

You are right, it wasn't the #s I thought I could hit, but at the end of the day the end results give me another shot. On my worse day I can still beat the average pros. So lets see how I can do against the best of the best. The Yarmbash (last years winner) and Andy Boltons (needs no intro) of the world will be there, and will make it a blast.

BTB very few know what you have done to help me make it back. Without your help and the help of the whole MAB community odds are I would not have been at the semi finals. I am not sure I can ever repay you for the things you have done for me. I do hope you know I am truly grateful for everything.

I have had an ACL, MCL, and both meniscus repaired in my right knee. Complete tear of the pec major tendon that was one of the worse my doctor had ever seen, and still have made things happen. I believe you make your own luck. I left well over 100lbs out there on the platform. That will not happen again!

I can promise you this, I wouldn't bet against me!

I would never bet against you. That statement bolded above says it all. That's the magic program.

I appreciate the kind words. Made my month, literally. It works both ways. Your love for the sport has motivated me to push myself to levels I never thought I would hit.

You two going to kiss yet or what?

Just messing around. Great work out there Byrd, wish I could have been there. But i am really excited to be at the Arnold with you. It is already on the calendar! You put in a ton of work to get back to where you are, and you didnt even go 100% out there. Arnold will be good to you.

Thanks guys, here is the scary part. I have about 6 week break, and then I am right into training for the Arnold. 16 week cycle puts me middle of November starting off.

Cleaning up my diet right now, going to let the body weight come down some, and go up from there.

No rest for the weak, back to training last night. Body really couldnt do a ton, but I had to do something. I couldnt let the taste of an off meet stick around too long.

3x15 band fly
3x15 tri pushdowns
3x30 sec planks
3x10 bird dogs 5 sec holds

Of course did some spotting and trash talking. Talked with Paul Key about my weak points in the bench. He wants me to hammer my raw lockout strength off 3boards. So that will be the plan in the near future as soon as the wrist is feeling a little better.
