Powerlifter's don't want to do reps. If you can do it more then one time it makes it less impressive, LOAD THE BAR! If they are under 5-10 and over 275lbs or over 6ft and 308+lbs maybe then you can say they can't do reps lmfao.

I struggle to think how strength can be un-functional to be honest

Unless he meant soley bicep strength alone wouldnt help much, but then that wouldnt be a concern to a strength trainee anyway... what a plank !!
