Default John Christy versus volume training

I have a question. I've been reading the John Christy thread and he seems to make sense. He trains twice or three times per week. This all makes sense until I start reading some of the logs like Jwood and Kman where they are using greater volume.

I guess I'm trying to understand that is you can gain on 2 to 3 times a week why would you train more then that? Not hating just curious? Wouldn't it be harder on the body in the long term? Or is it better on the body because of conditioning?

I don't see how you could do all that volume training with it not catching up to you sooner or later. Westside and Wendlers and many periodized powerlfiting programs are no more then 4 days per week. Just my 2 cents.

Well, imo, you can train indefinitely without a hiatus given you adhere to a few principles.
like:
-Keep it full body (You train exclusively one or 2 body parts, that ends up being to much volume for your joints one a specific day. You want to try to avoid causing gratuitous harm to your body as it will detract from your bodies overall recover, hence you spread out the load)
-Start off lower volume (Same point as above, you can gradually increase volume/intensity as your body becomes inured to the stress, but start of small. Plus since you're working out every day, your weekly volume will accumulate)

If you notice you're accruing extra tension and what not, don't immediately stop... but then don't be wreckless... try to just cross ever so scarcely into the realm of overtraining, and then immediately back off until you're fully recovered. Rinse and repeat.

That's how I'd do it I guess, and I postulate that that's some of the rationale behind their schedules as well.

almost missed this.... glad i saw it.

why i do it? i love to ****ing train.... honestly even if it were to limit my gains, i'd still do it this way... i just love going to the gym and lifting some heavy ****, so i do just that as often as possible.

you have to be smart about it... thats really what i comes down to. although i do a smorgisborg of random ****, there is actually thought behind it.

also, ease into it.... i probably didnt do this as much as i should.

all i know is my lifts are steadily climbing and im enjoying myself, so i'll keep doing it.

also EVERYTHING MOMBOW SAID I AGREE WITH!

If I wasn't going to the gym at least 5 times a week I would go crazy nothing else to do in my sh*thole town.

Thanks, it may not be good for a lot of people but, I've made a sh*tload of progress with it so far and I love being in the gym it's my utopia.

John Christy really focuses his training towards men who don't have time to train 4 to 5 times per week. Guys who want to be strong but have demanding jobs, or demanding family lives, etc.

So if you're young and getting results, by all means stay with your routine.

I would add that Christy is also trying to reach guys who train too much and aren't seeing results. Many times these guys just need to backoff, simplify and train for strength. Christy recommends consistent microloading for big gains.
