The point you made about cardio athletes needing to do sport specific cardio work. Lance armstrong who is quite possibly the most famous cyclist of all time (only one i can name at least haha) decided to try and run a marathon and got his ass stomped. Its anecdotal evidence pointing to you being correct.

Only when people know your gonna Smash more weight in the near future so the current number almost doesn't matter.
