I train heavy—real heavy. If you focus on squats, bench presses, deadlifts and chins—stick with basic heavy exercises—you’ll get big, your arms will grow, and you’ll be strong.

I’ve found that that’s the only thing that works. My genetic shape doesn’t change due to the way I train. Myths say that you can’t do heavy benches, chins, deadlifts and squats. I throw out the myths. I’ve proved it, and I continue to get stronger and improve.

My working weight on the bench is 500 pounds—that builds triceps. Deadlifts with no straps at 700 pounds—want forearms? Chins with 100 to 150 pounds tied to me—got biceps? Squats—name a muscle group that doesn’t get worked.

I was in until I read natural 21 inch arms.

I like the approach, of course, but that arm size for naturals is utter horse****. Arnold didn't even break 20. Oliva barely cracked 20. And O'Hearn's look nowhere near 20. I just don't understand why you would wreck a good article by adding on the horse****.

Anyway, back to the point (throwing out the chest-thumping), I agree with the approach. All a focus on biceps has ever given me was tendinitis. Sure, sometimes I feel like I'm missing the boat and hit them harder, but I'm rarely more than a one and done exercise bicep guy.

Personally, I think O'hearn is nowhere near 20". Compare his arm to Sergio's. Also, for Iron Man/O'hearn to pretend that even 20" arms are possible naturally is highly misleading and irresponsible.

Charles Poliquin quoting Arthur Jones:

Good post Mike. I see more and more articles backing up the heavy weight. I subscribed to MuscleMag when I was a noob, so I just glance through it and give it to one of the guys at the gym, but they had an article about lifting heavy weights using barbells.
