McDonald's and Taco Bell are going to make a fortune of high school kids, because that's the first place their gonna' run to after school.

The kids are hungry and the foods cheap.

Forgive my Canadian-ness here but more of a head-scratcher to me is why the government is even providing this "lunch". Where I come from everyone brought lunch to school We were never 'given' a lunch at school and by the looks of it that's a damn good thing.
Since when did it become the governments job to feed kids instead of their own parents?
Up here if a parent sends a kid to school with no lunch of their own they get investigated for being an unfit parent and if its bad enough they lose their children (and in my opinion, rightly so). Even the worst parents could toss a tortilla, slice of ham and a kraft single into a paper bag for a kid so why does the US government even bother wasting time and money on something that they shouldn't be worrying about in the first place? </rant>

I'm with Bigalfry - I don't understand why in the USA its up to the schools to feed the kids. Dear Lord, the government cant manage anything let alone meals - heck, even the stupid food guide is a pile of BS. Here the kids bring their own lunch, at least until it bcomes uncool in high school, of which all high schools have Cafeterias where they pick their own lunch, or go out to eat at a nearby fast food joint.

On a side note, I used to always bring a peanut butter and banana sandwich to school, and all the kids made fun of me and my "stupid" sandwich. That was like 40 years ago tho, but now it is a favorite of many lol. I takje credit for inventing it and tolerating the bullying for all of you lol.

Quote:
I dont wanna eat crusty ass broccoli for lunch
so did he have the option of broccoli as well as the other items?

also as do the kids have to pay for school lunches?

I'll try to explain it the best I can. First off our system is all screwed up.

The schools provide lunches.

The kids pay for the lunches. Or they bring their own lunch.

Years ago (like when I was in school) our lunch portions were larger.

Over the years people have gottn' fatter.

Instead of trying to teach kids and parents to eat healthier and avoid fast foods, they decided to try and starve the kids by cutting the lunch portions.

The gov. thinks that a calorie is a calorie, but its not.

The stupid gov. plan doesnt work, kids and parents are pissed, kids leave school hungry.

Because they are hungry and broke they eat more fast food and junk.

In short our gov. is not fixing a problem, they're just creating another one.

No problem.

I dont think the gov. really cares about kids in public school. If the kids are stupid then they cant question what the government does.

What's sad is that for some kids that's more food than they get at home. That was a case for many students
