Actually its for expanding you rib cage and indirect work you lats and abs.
if you breath all the air you can in, I do barbell version That work well and you do not need a lot of weight it a finishing exercise.

hack squats on the 45 degree angle at 6' 2" it hard on my knees, especially at that angle
