Thanks all. More progress to report today. I matched my all-time best raw squat of 435. Granted, it was a tougher lift than the 435 was last time, but it was also a tougher situation. The stupid bar I used was waving and wiggling like there's no tomorrow. It took far too long to get a solid setup, but I got the lift.

Today was heavy lower day. I've been looking forward to this day all week, and I thought about it all night. I had plenty of time, so I took it and didn't rush anything. I ended up in the gym for almost 2 1/2 hours.

Squat-
45x5
135x5
185x5
225x3
Add belt-
275x3
Add wraps-
315x2
345x2
365x3
405x2
435x1
385x3

Block pulls-
135x5
225x3
315x3
405x2
455x1
495x1

Not much to say about today. My joints already ache, my back is killing me, and I just want to sit down and relax for the rest of the day, but if I wanted to I could pop another caffeine pill, lace up my chucks and go get some more right now.

I'm onto something with my training. I need to really focus in on lots of volume on the submaximal training in that 60-80% range. That will build the muscle and get me in the groove without killing my joints. Maybe every other week I'll go heavy like this just to stimulate the CNS and make sure I'm pushing myself in every way possible to get stronger.

I'm going to be busy a couple days this week and I won't be able to lift. I've already made my plan for the week which accounts for the missed days. For the last 2 weeks I've made my plan for the week during the weekend before, and so far that's working out very well. It gets me pumped for the week ahead and helps me make sure I do everything in my training that I want to do.

More good things to come.

Upper bodybuilding day. I snuck a little heavy stuff in though, just for fun. I've got about 6 more weeks to really hit it during this cycle. Every day, every set, and every rep counts more than ever.

Double pulley pull downs-
40x20
80x20
110x20
160 to failure
180 to failure
200 to failure

Machine shrugs-
1pps x 20
2pps x 20
3pps x 20
4pps to failure
5pps to failure

Seated military press-
45x12
95x10
135x10
165x3
185x2
135x10

Lateral raise drop set-
30 to failure
25 to failure
20 to failure

Triceps extensions-
2 warm up sets
3 sets to failure

Seated double pulley curls-
2 warm up sets
3 sets to failure

Seated double pulley reverse triceps extensions-
3 sets to failure

Seated double pulley preacher curls-
3 sets to failure

Lots of forced reps and lots of pump today. I wanted to hit my calves too, but I was in my car before I remembered. The leg press is always busy anyways. I'll hit them tomorrow during my lower body speed/volume day.

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

Knees are aching pretty bad, but I'm still going to get some lighter leg work in today.

In other news, my weight has continued to inch up, which is not what I want. I've felt very strong this last weekend and when I saw 235 on the scale this morning it all made sense. Strength is good and all, but that's just too damn heavy.

So I'm changing my mode around to a very slow cut. It's not going to be as fun, but it works better for my long term goals. Hopefully I'll get back down into the 220's before my cycle is over, then I'll drop into the low 220's after my excess fluid and glycegon clear out of my system. If I get a little stronger while I do it, then fine. If I maintain the strength I have now while cutting some fat, well that'll have to do. I simply can't maintain this level of bodyweight.

I just wasn't feeling it in the gym today. My right knee is feeling very warbly, and when I tried to do any squatting something felt very wrong if I got anywhere near parallel. But I got a few sets in, and I got my blood flowing, so it's all good.

Deficit deads-
135x5
135x5
185x3
185x3
225x3
225x3
275x3
275x3
275x3
275x3

Sumo kettlebell deadlifts with feet on boxes-
53x8
53x8
53x8

I stould on boxes so I could lower the kettlebell without hitting the ground. I just wanted to use my legs a little without putting pressure on my knee. I basically did a squat but with the weight hanging between my legs.

Wide stance GM's-
135x10
135x15

Calves-
135x20
185x20
225 to failure with static hold
225 to failure with static hold

Single leg calf raise-
I alternated sets of 5 on each foot until I had trouble completing the set of 5 with a full ROM. The goal here was volume.

It's been a while since I took it anywhere close to this easy. That's just part of the deal when you train every day. You aren't going to have it in you to kick ass every time the sun comes up, so you just go in and get some active recovery in so you're ready next time.

I'm going to bench heavy tomorrow, along with some submaximal volume training on the military press.
