That's funny, it looks like I'm right there with you.

This calculator is interesting. I was only estimating my bodyfat %, and we all know how accurate that is, but it put my FFMI at 24.7. I read yesterday in the article posted about possible steroid use in crossfit that it can be assumed that anyone with a FFMI over 25 is probably on steroids. So that would mean that I'm pushing the limits for a natty physique? That's actually a bit disapointing. I don't consider myself that impressive. Or is my logic off here?

haha yeah that is why i posted this. Thought it was interesting. I have no idea my bf% so I used a few diff ones just to see.

I think the FFMI is a direct ratio of lean mass to height. If that's the case then it's better than BMI, but it's still flawed. A guy with more fat is generally going to be able to carry more muscle than someone who is lean. That could falsely promote the idea that being fatter is better because it makes it easier to maintan more muscle mass. I'm right in the middle. Not lean, but certainly not fat either.

To play devil's advocate, people often times underestimate their body fat percentage.

However, I try to avoid these calculators as they merely put a "ceiling" on your potential. I feel like in this day in age it's so easy to track, manage, and plot any and all data points. I wish I didn't have access to the Internet when I first started lifting because I wouldn't have gotten caught up in as much of the %s and "perfect" routine game.

I like the "ignorance is bliss" argument in this scenario. If your goal is to add muscle, lift heavy and eat; if you feel like you have adequate muscle but are too fat, decrease calories and continue lifting heavy.

Of course keep the aforementioned in mind as unless you take some sort of PED, you will never be as big/strong/lean as the top competitors in your sport of interest.

yeah mine comes out at 23.5 with me being lenient on the bodyfat percentage. not very motivating haha

The authors of the original journal article used lean test subjects - a little under 13% body fat on average - and said that those with much higher BF may be able to substantially exceed a 25FFMI without AAS.
