Default Tight hamstrings ?

Lately I've been feeling a lot of tension in my hamstrings during squats and dead lifts. When warming up for squats as soon as I get about parallel I feel crazy tightness in my hamstrings when I get in position to deadlift and as I deadlift the tension in my hamstrings is almost unbearable. Has anyone experienced this? What did you do? ?

Pretty typical. How long have you been training and what mobility work do you do?

Been squatting and dead lifting less than a yr but In the gym about a yr and a half. I do agile 8 along with foam rolling and a couple other dynamic stretches..one where you get in a deep squat with your hand holding your feet then straighten the legs is one of them.. Deadlifting was painful on my hamstrings tonight! Squats were doable once I worked up to my working set but definitely need to fix this. You say it's common? How often do you feel this and what do you do?

Honestly in addition to PVC rolling and stretching I do 5-15 minutes of traditional cardio before all that to warm up the muscles and lubricate everything. It's good for you, warms you up and it's easy to fit in. Can be as simple as treadmill or bike work. I'm squatting, benching and deadlifting 3 times per week relatively heavy and it's helped me

I'll try adding that to my warm up. Currently squatting 3 times a week and dead lifting 1-2. The tightness is definitely hindering my performance..hopefully warming up more will help

One thing I'll add that's helped loosen me up in my hips and hams is just doing some body weight squats beforehand. With every few I widen my stance out, to a stance much wider than what I squat with. It's simple, but works well for me.

good suggestions, but it's rarely the actual hammies that are the problem...they are usually a symptom..

The hammies, glutes and low back are a functional unit. Usually, weak or underactive glutes are the real issue. Also, tight piriformis and deep core muscles are probable culprits.

the sensation in the hammies is often because they are working too hard due to deficencies in the glutes and core.

check into it...I had to learn all that AFTER spine surgery.
