Default Setting a Home Gym

I’ve seen posts from several people setting up a home gym, from someone setting up a commercial gym, and from people just buying gym equipment. So I wanted to mention about my story.

At the end of August 2005, I got fed up with the expense and hassle of working out at commercial gyms and of traveling back and forth. So I set up a home gym. It cost a total of $2,500. But I figured out back then that as long as I kept working out for at least 2-1/2 years I would recoup that money in savings from not having to pay for a gym membership or for gas to travel back and forth. I’ve been working out continuously in my home gym for nine years now, so it has proved to be a very worthwhile investment.

However, I had many problems setting up my home gym. So I wrote a very detailed three-part article for my site in hopes that by relating my experiences others could avoid the same problems I encountered. There are also three pages of pics and a couple of articles for equipment I added later. These items are all listed at:

I hope it helps. And I should mention, and all of the equipment I mention in the article is still holding up just fine.

Gary, I thought about you yesterday when I was at my gym. There is non-stop rap music on there, and the particular sort they play is filled with unrelenting profanity. I was thinking how horrible you'd find it. I don't have strong feelings about it like you do, but even I come away feeling depressed and a bit grimy.

To me, that seems a great advantage of a home gym: being able to control the environment and not having to be exposed to terrible music with vile lyrics.

That is a point I mention in my article, with rap music being the example of music at a commercial gym that I didn't like.

I should have done this before posting about this, but I just updated all of my “Setting Up a Home Gym” pages. So if you haven’t read these pages article yet, now is a good time to do so. If you have, the updates are basically saying that for the most part all of the equipment I purchased worked out and have held up very well. http://www.fitnessforoneandall.com/p...t/home_gym.htm
