Attended my first meet today. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was the WNPF Furman University Challenge. A few of the high points that I can remember
One man competing in the 50-59, 195lb division benched 400lbs raw, and completed 38 reps in the bench for reps challenge.
A female lifter competing in the 50-59 division (didn't catch the weight class) set a state record on the power curl.
One competitor power curled 220lbs (holy cow!)
Heaviest squat attempted was 575lbs, while the heaviest squat completed was 525lbs.
Heaviest bench press attempted was 450lbs (raw) and the heaviest bench completed was 425lbs (raw)
The oldest competitor was in the 60-69 division and had a dang good showing.

I left shortly after the deadlifting started, but they were lifting VERY strong already.

I learned a lot that I didn't know, considering I have never attended a meet. I didn't know that 2 out of 3 white lights was still considered a good lift. It moved a little faster than I expected. I didn't count the lifters, but I estimate it at 20 or so. It seemed like they were coming up for their follow up attempts pretty quick. I also learned that I don't have to be quite so worried about trying to quell my grunting when squatting heavy. It seemed like all of the heavy squatters had to do a little grunting to get the weight back up.

Glad you attended a meet Dawg! Should have calmed some of your fears, if you had any. Most of the lifters are normal folk are more than willing to help out a newbie! Sounds like you enjoyed it too

Thanks, Ravi! I do hope to compete soon. The next meet I plan to try for sure is in December. Hopefully I will find a meet a little closer before then. Finding information on meets, especially smaller ones like we would have here locally, is hard to do.

Thanks, Rich! They were a pretty good bunch of guys overall. I did enjoy it a lot.

Today was supposed to be day one of week two on Wendler's 5/3/1. I got a call from a friend who had found me a tire for flippin. I went and picked that up and that counted for today's training. I will make up today's missed session tomorrow.
