Default A rebuttal to the notion of sugar being a drug/toxic

My terse response to the article posted on the forum about sugar being "an addictive drug".

I am curious how you explain the many people on this forum that drop pounds of fat just by cutting out carbohydrates?

Assuming the majority of these people don't track their macros, which is a fair assumption to make, it's actually very likely that by cutting carbs they have put themselves in a deficit since it's substantially more difficult to get in a lot of calories when high carb foods are not an option.

When I talk to people about low carb dieting I'm sure to mention that in the end the only way to consistently lose weight is by eating fewer calories than you use.

There are many reasons why low carb dieting works. It's not a magical thing that makes calories not matter.

1. Studies show (Don't you love it when people start a sentence with that phrase?) that people who are allowed to eat as much as they want but only get access to protein and fat will eat up to 1/3 less calories than people who are allowed to eat as much as they want but get access to all 3 macros.

2. Low carb dieting is often boring. You have a very limited pallete of food to choose from. This makes eating less fun, and therefore you eat less (or just give up the diet).

3. People lose 5-10lb right off the bat because they are holding on to much less water and glycogen. This is what gives low carb dieting it's magical reputation.

I've proven through my own experimentation that if you eat too many calories it's certainly possible (and probably probable, lol) that you will not lose fat just because you aren't eating carbs.

Well put Kleur, I'd surmise the same thing

All good points Soldier, and the ending statement is almost always the case.

Its worked for me. Ive manage to drop pounds and still progress with strength. this being said I am a proponent for the low carb approach. It works for me and is simple. I think that is what matters in the end.

It worked for me to do low carb without monitoring intake for a while. I actually just went from 233 down to 219 just by eating low carb with a single carb up every week. But I got stuck at 219 and had to start monitoring my intake by weighing and logging my food again. After being stuck at 219 for over a week I immediately dropped 3 more lb the next week.

But I also had way more cravings and my blood sugar would noticeably jump and drop throughout the day. I'm currently still weighing and logging everything, but I'm going to start cycling my carbs to hopefully lose even faster and get the benefits of both dieting with and without carbs.

I think unless you either have a TON of experience or are genetically gifted it's impossible to really get shredded without very closely monitoring everything that goes in your mouth.

I increased my fat intake, that cured the cravings and my glucose levels were stable. Averaged 90mg/dL.
