Default Dave's Try to Not Be Weaker Than Piss Powerlifting Log

Well, I'm sitting in the airport in Moscow. I just finished my first Raw World's, the write up can be found at the end of my last log or this thread:

(Will link when I'm home)

Worlds was quite the experience. I'm a half decent lifter at home, not the best by any means, but lifting at Worlds showed me I have a LOT of room for improvement. I finished 8th, almost 7th, out of I think 10 lifters. There were truly mind boggling numbers thrown around in both my weigt class and all the others. For Christ's sake, there were a couple woman who just about out totalled me.

The biggest thing I learned is that all the top lifters seem to have one common factor in their training, which just so happened to agree with what I thought:

Volume.

A fuck ton of volume. Hurt your soul types of volume.

The goal for my next meet, which I believe will be Eastern Canadians in November, is to greatly improve my work capacity in terms of volume. I'm hoping to total at least 660kg there, maybe a bit more. I had a bit left in the tank for squats, probably near 7.5kg, and the weight loss affected the bench quite a bit. If I fix up my deadlift technique a bit, 660 should be easily obtainable.

I'll continue running Sheiko CMS programs, but I'll be adding front squats to Wednesday and Saturday. Tuesday and perhaps another day will be light assistance work as per usual. I don't have a great deal to tweak, I just have to keep training. I won't be doing nearly as much box work for deadlifts, only deficits, pauses and normal from the floor work. Fixing up technique will make lockouts a non-issue.

I haven't weighed myself since the meet, but seeing as I lost 7kg in a week since leaving Canada by the time I weighed in, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm well under 100kg. I'm ball parking 95-97kg. Therefore, the first week or two of training will use training maxes at 85 or 90% of what I hit at the meet. There is no reason to start too high. In fact, it's stupid.

That's all I can think of right now. I'll post training, etc, as soon as it happens.

Yep, soul crushing volume is where it's at is my thinking too.

Crush it Big Dave. Rock on, fellow North American. (Go Cananda )

Thanks for tuning in again guys.

I'm in NJ now, I think I'll head to Gold's on Friday before I head back to Canada on Saturday then start training Monday. I have the worst head cold I've ever had, the flight was a nightmare on my ears (and they are never a problem for me).

Talking to some of the other lifters, it's pretty much squat bench deadlift nearly every day. Some 4x week squat. It's great, simple stuff that works.

Funny you say this, Mike. I was lifting in the same flight with an American fellow I met during the trip and we were "Team North America."

The support between the Americans and Canadians was awesome. Tony, Rob Trettin and Mike Hedlesky were all awesome guys, as were the other Americans. Brad Gillingham is the nicest fellow and the biggest man I have ever seen in real life.

Was supposed to wait until tomorrow to train, but I was bored, so...

Bench
225 lbs x 3 x 5 sets

CG Bench
195 lbs x 5 x 5 sets

Squat
315 lbs x 3 x 5 sets (beltless, last set with 335)

Front Squat
185 lbs x 3 x 5 sets (beltless)

Started with training maxes that are 85% of what I did at the meet. Easing back in to it. I'll still likely train tomorrow.
